PiP‐Plex: A Particle‐in‐Particle System for Multiplexed Quantification of Proteins Secreted by Single Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Detecting proteins secreted by a single cell while retaining its viability remains challenging. A particles‐in‐particle (PiPs) system made by co‐encapsulating barcoded microparticles (BMPs) with a single cell inside an alginate hydrogel particle is introduced.

Cost-effectiveness of stereotactic large-core needle biopsy for nonpalpable breast lesions compared to open-breast biopsy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 2004
This paper demonstrates that the introduction of large-core needle biopsy (LCNB) replacing needle-localised breast biopsy (NLBB) for nonpalpable (screen-detected) breast lesions could result in substantial cost savings at the expense of a possible slight increase in breast cancer mortality.

Autonomous Hydrogel Actuators Programmed by Endogenous Biochemical Logic for Dual‐Stage Morphing and Drug Release

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed BSA–PEGDA bilayer actuator performs biochemical logic, bending autonomously in acid and releasing its drug payload only when both acid and pepsin are present. This dual‐stage, enzyme‐gated mechanism enables autonomous catch‐and‐release motion and controlled gastric drug delivery, representing a programmable soft material powered by ...

Diagnostic performance of stereotactic large core needle biopsy for nonpalpable breast lesions in routine clinical practice [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, 2007
AbstractThe COBRA (COre Biopsy after RAdiological localization) study showed that in a controlled study setting, stereotactic large core needle biopsy (LCNB) is as reliable for diagnosing nonpalpable breast lesions as open surgical biopsy. In the present study, we evaluated the diagnostic performance of stereotactic LCNB in routine clinical practice ...

A Microfluidic Multiplex Sorter for Strain Development

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A new multiplex method for high‐throughput screening of yeast strains based on glucoamylase production is presented. Droplets containing single mutant yeast cells are incubated for enzyme production. A sorting platform divides mutants by their high‐ and mid‐activity levels.

Design of a wasp-inspired biopsy needle capable of self-propulsion and friction-based tissue transport

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Percutaneous pancreatic core biopsy is conclusive but challenging due to large-diameter needles, while smaller-diameter needles used in aspiration methods suffer from buckling and clogging.

During Transrectal Ultrasound-guided Prostate Biopsy Which Combination of Analgesia Method is Effective? A Prospective Randomized Study

open access: yesJournal of Urological Surgery, 2021
Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the effectivity of pain palliation with intrarectal local anesthesia (IRLA), periprostatic nerve block (PPNB), apex nerve block (ANB), or their combination during transrectal ultrasound-guided (TRUS) prostate biopsy.

Percutaneous large core needle biopsy versus surgical biopsy in the diagnosis of breast lesions.

open access: yesInternational surgery, 1997
To value LCNB accuracy in the determination of morphobiological parameters and as an alternative to the open SB diagnostic procedure of breast lesions.University Hospital, Italy. From May 1992 to February 1995 196 biopsies have been performed. The diameter of the neoplasms examined varied from 0.6 to 7 cm with an average of 1.9 cm.The accuracy of the ...

Is Stereotactic Large-Core Needle Biopsy Beneficial Prior to Surgical Treatment in BI-RADS 5 Lesions? [PDF]

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research and Treatment, 2004
Due to screening mammography, more nonpalpable mammographic lesions warrant histological evaluation. Stereotactic large-core needle biopsy (SLCNB) has been shown to be as effective in diagnosing these lesions as diagnostic surgical excision, and has become the preferred diagnostic procedure for most mammographic lesions.
