Multiplex single‐cell profiling of putative cancer stem cell markers ALDH1, SOX9, SOX2, CD44, CD133 and CD15 in endometrial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer stem cells are associated with aggressive disease, but a deep characterization of such markers is lacking in endometrial cancer. This study uses imaging mass cytometry to explore putative cancer stem cell markers in endometrial tumors and corresponding organoid models.

Mapping of transrectal ultrasonographic prostate biopsies: quality control and learning curve assessment by image processing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of ultrasound in medicine : official journal of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine 28, 4 (2009) 455-60, 2009
Objective: Mapping of transrectal ultrasonographic (TRUS) prostate biopsies is of fundamental importance for either diagnostic purposes or the management and treatment of prostate cancer, but the localization of the cores seems inaccurate. Our objective was to evaluate the capacities of an operator to plan transrectal prostate biopsies under 2 ...

Blood-Based Cancer Biomarkers in Liquid Biopsy: A Promising Non-Invasive Alternative to Tissue Biopsy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
Cancer is one of the greatest threats facing our society, being the second leading cause of death globally. Currents strategies for cancer diagnosis consist of the extraction of a solid tissue from the affected area.

Risk factors of pneumothorax and chest tube placement after computed tomography-guided core needle biopsy of lung lesions : a single-centre experience with 822 biopsies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: To determine the risk factors of pneumothorax and chest tube placement after computed tomography-guided core needle lung biopsy (CT-CNB). Material and methods: Variables that could increase the risk of pneumothorax and chest tube placement were ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Update on the ICUD-SIU consultation on multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging in localised prostate cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: Prostate cancer (PCa) imaging is a rapidly evolving field. Dramatic improvements in prostate MRI during the last decade will probably change the accuracy of diagnosis.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Automated detection of celiac disease on duodenal biopsy slides: a deep learning approach [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Celiac disease prevalence and diagnosis have increased substantially in recent years. The current gold standard for celiac disease confirmation is visual examination of duodenal mucosal biopsies. An accurate computer-aided biopsy analysis system using deep learning can help pathologists diagnose celiac disease more efficiently.

A percutaneous needle biopsy technique for sampling the supraclavicular brown adipose tissue depot of humans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Brown adipose tissue (BAT) has been proposed as a potential target tissue against obesity and its related metabolic complications. Although the molecular and functional characteristics of BAT have been intensively studied in rodents, only a few studies ...
