Liquid-crystalline aromatic–aliphatic copolyester bioresorbable polymers
Biomaterials, 2010The synthesis and characterisation of a series of liquid-crystalline aromatic-aliphatic copolyesters are presented. Differential scanning calorimetry showed these polymers have a glass transition temperature in the range 72 degrees C-116 degrees C. Polarised optical microscopy showed each polymer exhibits a nematic mesophase on heating to the molten ...

Bioresorbable polymers for temporary therapeutic applications
Die Angewandte Makromolekulare Chemie, 1989AbstractPolymer science is mature enough to allow one to think about tailor‐making macromolecular compounds aimed at interacting purposely with living systems. Reasons for developing bioresorbable polymers for temporary therapeutic applications are discussed with respect to property adjustments and economical factors.

Novel calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) that can be resorbed into the human body need to be developed. One approach for improving bioresorbability is reducing the content of calcium phosphate in CPCs; however, this may induces difficulties in setting the cement and increases the risk of decay.

Sterilisation of bioresorbable polymer implants.
Medical device technology, 2007Bioresorbable polymer implants are rapidly growing alternatives to traditional implants in many applications. Because of their resorption in the body, it is necessary to sterilise the complete product before application. The suitability of different sterilisation methods for bioresorbable polymers is discussed using polylactic acid implants as an ...
