Analysis of plant and environmental samples for the quarantine fungus Phyllosticta citricarpa in four European citrus‐growing areas

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, EarlyView.
Methodologies for the early detection of Phyllosticta citricarpa in air and rainwater samples were developed and applied over three consecutive years (2018–2021) in four European citrus sites, previously reported to harbour the pathogen. Phyllosticta citricarpa was not detected in plant, air, or rainwater samples, and no CBS symptoms were observed on ...

Biosecurity practices and their determining factors in commercial layer chickens in selected regions of Tanzania

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Introduction Biosecurity measures are crucial for controlling infectious diseases in poultry farms. It involves all measures aiming at preventing disease-causing agents from entering the farm (external biosecurity) and those measures practiced with the ...

Host preferences of non‐native Acalolepta aesthetica (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) on the Island of Hawaiʻi

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Acalolepta aesthetica is a non‐native cerambycid established on the Island of Hawaiʻi. We show its preferred hosts are woody species that are highly valued for agricultural, horticultural and cultural uses. We used a resource selection function to estimate host preferences and found that kukui (Aleurites moluccanus), the state tree, was preferred ...

Mitigating Biosecurity Risks on Islands: Preventative Measures

open access: yes
Islands are biodiversity hotspots, supporting a high proportion of endemic plant and animal species, yet they face disproportionately high extinction rates due to the introduction of invasive alien species. Globalization has intensified these risks, as islands increasingly rely on shipping and air transport for supplies, and tourism for economic growth,

A systematic review on research trends and commercialised entomopathogenic nematodes: A global perspective

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Out of 136 identified EPNs, only 18 (8 Steinernema and 6 Heterorhabditis) are commercialised globally, highlighting a major gap between discovery and application. High production costs and inconsistent field efficacy are the leading obstacles to the widespread commercialisation of EPN‐based biocontrol products.

Emergence of Ophidiomyces ophidiicola, Nannizziopsis barbatae and Paranannizziopsis in free‐ranging Australian reptiles

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Emerging fungal diseases pose a threat to reptiles globally. Increasing detections of onygenalean fungi, particularly Ophidiomyces ophidiicola, Nannizziopsis spp. and Paranannizziopsis spp. in clinically diseased free‐ranging reptiles, indicate likely ongoing spread within wild reptile populations.

Farmer investment into biosecurity on broiler and layer farms in Bali [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper measures the cost of implementing biosecurity on broiler and layer farms in Bali. Farmer investment in biosecurity is analysed to determine if there is any difference in the implementation of biosecurity between broiler and layer farms.
