Integration of new zircon U–Pb ages with biostratigraphy to establish a high-precision age model of the Miocene Nakayama Formation on Sado Island in Central Japan

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science
The most common age constraint for the diatomaceous sediments is biostratigraphy of siliceous microfossils. Although biostratigraphy is a powerful tool to establish stratigraphy and correlate with sedimentary sequences in other sites, biostratigraphy ...

Valanginian to Barremian Benthic Foraminifera from ODP Site 766 (Leg 123, Indian Ocean) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A Valanginian to Barremian bathyal foraminiferal assemblage (118 taxa belonging to 51 genera) is documented from ODP Site 766, drilled near the foot of the Exmouth Plateau off northwest Australia.

Relationship and Source of Whitings Used as a Painting Ground in Icons From Polish Museum Collections Based on Their Calcareous Nannofossil Content

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In icon painting, chalk whiting is key to creating a gesso ground, providing a smooth, absorbent surface for paint. Calcareous nannofossils, tiny marine skeletons found in chalk, are an ideal tool for analyzing the origin of an icon's chalk ground, often the only reliable information about where the icon came from.

Magnetostratigraphy of the Lower Triassic beds from Chaohu(China) and its implications for the Induan–Olenekian stage boundary. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A magnetostratigraphic study was performed on the lower 44 m of the West Pingdingshan section near Chaohu city, (Anhui province, China) in order to provide a magnetic polarity scale for the early Triassic.

Shoreline and deglaciation chronology in southeast Norway

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The postglacial relative sea level history is reconstructed in four areas of mid‐ and inner Oslofjorden in southeast Norway. The reconstructions are based on radiocarbon‐dated raised shoreline levels from 42 sites, mainly isolation basins, and limiting ages from four lakes above the marine limit.

A revised Mississippian lithostratigraphy of County Galway (western Ireland) with an analysis of carbonate lithofacies, biostratigraphy, depositional environments and palaeogeographic reconstructions utilising new borehole data

open access: yesJournal of Palaeogeography, 2015
An integrated study of borehole data and outcrop of Mississippian (late Tournaisian to late Viséan) rocks in Co. (County) Galway, western Ireland has enabled a more detailed geological map and lithostratigraphy to be constructed for the region.

3D Quantification of Subsidence During Pyrenean Retro‐Wedge Initiation: Role of Structural and Thermal Inheritance on Hyperextended Margin Inversion (Aquitaine Basin)

open access: yesTerra Nova, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present novel 3D subsidence data enabling vertical movements' quantification during the early formation of the Pyrenean retro‐wedge. From Cenomanian to Turonian times, subsidence is relatively low (~26 ± 10 m/Myr), corresponding to a brief 10 Myr thermal re‐equilibration of the European lithosphere following the hyperextended rift episode ...

Paleocene orthophragminids from the Lakadong Limestone, Mawmluh Quarry section, Meghalaya (Shillong, NE India). Implications for the regional geology and paleobiogeography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The late Paleocene orthophragminids, hitherto poorly known from the Himalayan foreland basins, are studied from the Lakadong Limestone in Meghalaya, northeastern India, in order to establish a systematic, biostratigraphic, and paleobiogeographical ...

Systematics, biostratigraphy and paleoenvironmental investigation of early Ypresian Alveolina assemblages in the northern part of Isparta Angle (Keçiborlu, Isparta, SW Turkey)

open access: yesBulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration, 2021
Thanetian-early Ypresian (middle Ilerdian) limestones from the northern part of Isparta Angle (Keçiborlu, Isparta, SW Turkey) contain rich benthic foraminiferal assemblage. Ilerdian beds of the Büyükkırtepe formation are characterized

Remarks on the type locality and current status of the foraminiferal species Rzehakina epigona (Rzehak, 1895) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A likely topotype locality is proposed for Rzehakina epigona. As the type specimen of Silicina epigona Rzehak, 1895 is assumed to be lost, we undertook a search for new material in the type area, Zdounky village in Moravia. A single locality provided a
