Slip versus dilation tendency parameter space as a tool for prospecting structurally controlled geothermal systems in greenfield: insights from the greater Ruhr region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study highlights that with the static and time‐dependent evolution of slip versus dilation tendency parameter space, structurally controlled deep geothermal systems can be selected within areas of higher permeability and lower seismic hazard. Abstract Faults play a vital role in the Earth's hydraulic system by facilitating fluid flow when dilating

Anomalous translational velocity of vortex ring with finite-amplitude Kelvin waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We consider finite-amplitude Kelvin waves on an inviscid vortex assuming that the vortex core has infinitesimal thickness. By numerically solving the governing Biot-Savart equation of motion, we study how the frequency of the Kelvin waves and the ...

Green’s functions, Biot-Savart operators, and linking numbers on negatively curved symmetric spaces [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2019
We construct radial fundamental solutions for the differential form Laplacian on negatively curved symmetric spaces. At least, one of these Green’s functions also yields a Biot-Savart operator, i.e., a right inverse of the exterior differential on closed forms with image in the kernel of the codifferential.

Caving‐enhanced geothermal system overwhelms fracturing‐ and pipe‐enhanced geothermal system in heat extraction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that caving‐enhanced geothermal systems (C‐EGS) with adequately fractured reservoirs achieve optimal heat extraction by minimizing preferential flow paths, while conventional fracturing (F‐EGS) and pipe‐based (P‐EGS) systems suffer accelerated thermal drawdown.

The Biot-Savart operator and electrodynamics on subdomains of the three-sphere

open access: yes, 2011
We study steady-state magnetic fields in the geometric setting of positive curvature on subdomains of the three-dimensional sphere. By generalizing the Biot-Savart law to an integral operator BS acting on all vector fields, we show that electrodynamics ...

Rayleigh waves and surface stability for Bell materials in compression; comparison with rubber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The stability of a Bell-constrained half-space in compression is studied. To this end, the propagation of Rayleigh waves on the surface of the material when it is maintained in a static state of triaxial prestrain is considered.

Prediction of magnetohydrodynamics fluid flow with viscous dissipation through artificial neural network

open access: yesDiscover Molecules
The prediction of fluid flow in non-Newtonian Magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) with Biot number is examined in this article. The Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm to predict the Nusselt Number (NN) and Skin Friction Coefficients (SFCs). Along with the Biot number,

In vitro reactivation of spindle elongation in fission yeast nuc2 mutant cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
To investigate the mechanisms of spindle elongation and chromosome separation in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, we have developed an in vitro assay using a temperature-sensitive mutant strain, nuc2.

Phenomenological model of propagation of the elastic waves in a fluid-saturated porous solid with non-zero boundary slip velocity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Zhu & Granick [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 096105 (2001)] have recently experimentally established existence of a boundary slip in a Newtonian liquid. They reported typical values of the slip length of the order of few micro-meters. In this light, the effect of
