Networked buffering: a basic mechanism for distributed robustness in complex adaptive systems [PDF]
A generic mechanism - networked buffering - is proposed for the generation of robust traits in complex systems. It requires two basic conditions to be satisfied: 1) agents are versatile enough to perform more than one single functional role within a ...

Effect of short-term probiotic Enterococcus faecium SF68 dietary supplementation in overweight and obese cats without comorbidities [PDF]
Obesity in cats is associated with metabolic abnormalities and increased susceptibility to diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Studies in mouse models and human beings have shown that probiotics can reduce food intake, promote weight loss and improve ...

On the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) peaks at intermediate soil organic carbon levels and declines thereafter. In carbon‐rich soils, the formation of stable mineral‐associated organic carbon is decoupled from microbial CUE.

First spatial resolution of the stellar components of the interacting binary CH Cygni
We report the first resolved bispectrum speckle interferometry of the symbiotic binary CH Cyg. The measured component separation, $\rho=42 \pm 2$ mas, is consistent with the one derived from the known spectroscopic orbit and distance.

Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction

GbWAKL20 Phosphorylates GbNFYB8 to Modulate Verticillium Wilt Resistance in Cotton
Wall‐associated receptor‐like kinases (WAKLs) play pivotal roles in extracellular–intracellular signal transduction. Upon sensing Verticillium dahliae infestation at the plasma membrane, GbWAKL20 accumulates and transmits signals to the nucleus via endoplasmic reticulum‐mediated Golgi vesicle transport.

A redox‐active conductive carrier of tannic acid‐modified iron‐biochar with superior wettability is demonstrated to regulate direct electron transfer at the anaerobic biofilm‐carrier interface by enhancing the cytochrome c‐mediated pathway. For the first time, integrated evidence from spectroscopy, electrochemical analyses, and metatranscriptomics ...
