Biotic homogenization of urban floras by alien species: The role of species turnover and richness differences

, 2016
We ask whether changes in beta diversity of plant communities due to introduction of alien species result from changes in species turnover or from differences in species richness.

The use of biotic and abiotic components of Red Sea coastal areas as indicators of ecosystem health

Ecotoxicology, 2015
A biomonitoring study was conducted using some biotic (Pomadasys hasta and Lutjanus russellii fish) and abiotic (water and sediment) components of the Red Sea coast of Hodeida, Yemen Republic along two polluted sites (Al-Dawar beach and Urj village) in comparison to a reference site (Al-Nukhailah beach).

Heavy Metal Contamination in Biotic Component: A gradual case study in West Bengal

International Journal of Chemical and Environmental Sciences, 2020
Fish is a popular human food. Over two-and-a-half billion people globally obtain their daily nutrient intake from fish. In India, it is a major dietary component for over 50 percent, and is a particularly important nutrition source for the poor. Mercury is a deadly environmental pollutant, both in its elemental form and in combination with other ...

Sorption of Trace Elements by Biotic and Abiotic Soil Components and Their Composites

2010
With the increasing discharge by excessive application of fertilizer and the development of various industrial productions, the pollution by trace elements in natural environment has received great attention in recent decades. The sorption of trace elements on soil components is considered to be a vital process in controlling their mobility and ...

INTERACTIONS BETWEEN BIOTIC COMPONENTS IN SOILS AND THEIR MODIFICATION BY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN CANADA: A REVIEW

Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1973
Soil microfloral and faunal components are vitally concerned with soil fertility, plant growth, and decomposition of plant residues and pesticides and are interrelated in a complex manner. Interactions occurring between dominant soil biotic components have been compiled and each interaction rated according to its importance in the literature.

Soil Temperature Interactions with the Biotic Components of Vascular Wilt Diseases

1989
Temperature is an environmental factor which strongly affects wilt diseases since it has an influence on each of the three biotic components involved in the production of the syndrome of wilt diseases, i.e., the pathogen, the host plant and soil microorganisms. Surface temperatures vary with latitude and altitude and change cyclically each day and each

Biotic and Abiotic Components of Marine Ecosystem

2023
An aquatic ecosystem is a water-based environment. Aquatic ecosystems include the marine ecosystem and freshwater ecosystems. Two-thirds of the total surface area of the planet is covered by marine water. These ecosystems can be classified into two main categories; i) water/pelagic environment (including; neritic and oceanic zones) and; ii) bottom ...

Organism — Biotic Component

If there is one system that epitomizes Haraway’s description of the informatics of domination as “scary new networks,” it is the US private health care system—and in particular the precarious position that disability occupies within a system that is defined by the mandate of calculating “costs of lowering constraints.” In order to suggest how ...

Evaluating the role of biotic and chemical components of plant-soil feedback of primary successional plants

Biology and Fertility of Soils, 2019
During primary succession, vegetation and soil form important feedbacks that enhance plant species turnover. However, the mechanisms underlying such plant-soil feedbacks (PSFs) remain unclear. We studied PSFs among 12 species from different successional stages in a limestone quarry.

Influences of the biotic and structural components of Crassostrea virginica on the oyster reef community.

2015
The hard, complex reef structure created by the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, provides refuge and habitat that protects many organisms, allowing them to settle, survive, and spawn. In addition, oysters create copious amounts of biodeposits, which potentially serve as a basal nutrient resource for the reef ecosystem.
