Partitioning of net CO2 exchanges at the city-atmosphere interface into biotic and abiotic components

open access: yesMethodsX, 2021
Eddy covariance (EC) method has been used to measure CO2 fluxes over various ecosystems. Recently, the EC method has been also deployed in urban areas to measure CO2 fluxes. Urban carbon cycle is complex because of the additional anthropogenic processes unlike natural ecosystems but the EC method only measures the net sum of all CO2 sources and sink ...

The role of mangrove fine root production and decomposition on soil organic carbon component ratios

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2021
Mangrove fine roots are an important contributor to soil organic matter (SOC), yet how their production and decomposition affect SOC accumulation across the sea-land gradient is still elusive.

Root secondary growth: an unexplored component of soil resource acquisition.

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2020
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Despite recent progress in elucidating the molecular basis of secondary growth (cambial growth), the functional implications of this developmental process remain poorly understood.

Patterns of diversity change for forest vegetation across different climatic regions - A compound habitat gradient analysis approach

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2020
Biotic diversity of ecological communities can be driven by a mixture of climatic, soil and biotic factors from local to regional scales. Patterns of diversity change were often examined along latitudinal or elevational gradients, which were mainly ...

Performance comparison of biotic indices measuring the ecological status base on soft-bottom macroinvertebrates: a study along the shallow Gomishan lagoon (Southeast Caspian Sea)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2015
This paper aims to test the suitability of some biotic indices for their application in Southeast Caspian Sea. For this purpose, the ecological quality of the Gomishan lagoon was assessed using three biotic indices (AMBI, BENTIX, BOPA) during summer and ...

A multidimensional framework for measuring biotic novelty: How novel is a community?

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2019
Anthropogenic changes in climate, land use and disturbance regimes, as well as introductions of non-native species can lead to the transformation of many ecosystems.

Long Non-Coding RNAs, the Dark Matter: An Emerging Regulatory Component in Plants

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are pervasive transcripts of longer than 200 nucleotides and indiscernible coding potential. lncRNAs are implicated as key regulatory molecules in various fundamental biological processes at transcriptional, post ...

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Arcopilus aureus : a valuable endophytic associate of hazelnut

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2023
Endophytic fungi are increasingly being considered for their ecological role and effects on plant protection and nutrition. Their contribution in improving fitness can be particularly relevant in the case of semi-extensive tree crops, such as hazelnut ...

Temporal Effects of Groundwater on Physical and Biotic Components of a Karst Stream

open access: yesWater, 2019
Although most lotic ecosystems are groundwater dependent, our knowledge on the relatively long-term ecological effects of groundwater discharge on downstream reaches remains limited. We surveyed four connected reaches of a Chinese karst stream network for 72 consecutive months, with one reach, named Hong Shi Zi (HSZ), evidently affected by groundwater.
