Biotic factors that induce the tomato Ve1 R-gene

Plant Science, 2017
In tomato, Verticillium resistance is determined by the Ve gene locus encoding two leucine-rich repeat-receptor-like proteins (Ve1, Ve2). The resistance function usually is attributed to Ve1 alone, with two known alleles: Ve1, encoding a resistance protein, and ve1, with a premature stop codon encoding a truncated product.

Environmental and Biotic Factors Impacting the Activities of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus

2020
‘Everything is everywhere, but the environment selects’ – Lourens Baas Becking This quote by Dutch botanist Lourens Baas Becking, when extended to microbiology, implies the activities of microorganisms are defined by the environment in which they find themselves, with biotic and abiotic factors alike impacting their activity, metabolism and ...

Influence of biotic and abiotic factors on dissipating metalaxyl in soil

Chemosphere, 2001
Under laboratory condition, dissipation of metalaxyl in sterile and non-sterile soils, its sorption behaviour and fate in presence of light have been studied. The half-life value of metalaxyl was found in the range of 36-73 d in non-sterile soil. 5.3-14.7% dissipation was observed due to abiotic factors other than light. Metalaxyl was found photostable

Biotic Factors and the Structure of Fish Communities

1992
The composition of a fish assemblage at a given locality is the result of the operation of a series of filters (Tonn et al., 1990). The process of speciation determines the total complement of species that could be present. Biogeographical processes determine those species that have access to the locality.

Implications of biotic factors for toxicity testing in laboratory studies

Science of The Total Environment
There is an emerging call from scientists globally to advance the environmental relevance of laboratory studies, particularly within the field of ecotoxicology. To answer this call, we must carefully examine and elucidate the shortcomings of standardized toxicity testing methods that are used in the derivation of toxicity values and regulatory criteria.

Semi natural vegetation and the biotic factor

2018
The results of the investigations have been exploited economically, in several directions. For example it is found that on the poorest grassland (from the graziers' point of view). that the footpaths traversing it, possess an entirely different flora of species with a high feeding value.
