A review of phylogeography: biotic and abiotic factors

open access: yesGeology, Ecology, and Landscapes, 2018
Phylogeography expounds population genetics and phylogenetics in straightforward geographic manner, providing good framework in revealing the evolutionary background of the species.

Resource Allocation Trade‐Offs and Rewired Mycorrhizal Networks Underlie the Adaptation of Paphiopedilum purpuratum to Ex Situ Conservation

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Paphiopedilum purpuratum Mediates Adaptation via a Dual‐Fungal Strategy: Confronting a physiological trade‐off (↑seed set vs. ↓photosynthesis), Paphiopedilum purpuratum restructures its root microbiome. Mycorrhizal fungi stabilize into a resilient core network, whereas non‐mycorrhizal fungi shift to a dynamic beneficial periphery.

A review of the historic and present ecological role of aquatic and shoreline wood, from forest to deep sea

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ecology of forests, their losses, and terrestrial wood decomposition dynamics have been intensively studied and reviewed. In the aquatic realm, reviews have concentrated on large wood (LW) in rivers and the transition from freshwater to marine environments in the Pacific Northwest of North America. However, a comprehensive global synthesis

The Importance of Biotic vs. Abiotic Drivers of Local Plant Community Composition Along Regional Bioclimatic Gradients.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
We assessed if the relative importance of biotic and abiotic factors for plant community composition differs along environmental gradients and between functional groups, and asked which implications this may have in a warmer and wetter future.

Shaping research in marine functional connectivity for integrated and effective marine science and management

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Effective knowledge of ecological connectivity at sea and at the land–sea interface is key to supporting global policy goals to conserve and restore ocean biodiversity and function. However, a persistent lack of commonality in terminology and understanding around the concept of connectivity in marine ecological studies hampers its integration ...

Prebiotic chemistry and origin of living beings: current state, scientific perspectives and (bio)ethical issues

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, studies into prebiotic chemistry have made a decisive contribution to research into the origins of life.

The spread of non‐native species

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global redistribution of species through human agency is one of the defining ecological signatures of the Anthropocene, with biological invasions reshaping biodiversity patterns, ecosystem processes and services, and species interactions globally.

Factors influencing the fauna of pit lakes in the Cheremkhovo district (Irkutsk region, Russia)

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica
Recently, the global scientific community has shown interest in studying pit lake ecosystems. This interest is driven by a number of factors, including the significant role of pit lakes in enhancing regional biodiversity and providing ecosystem services.
