Comprehensive sex- and tissue-specific transcriptome of the destructive invasive pest Tuta absoluta adults

open access: yesScientific Data
The South American tomato pinworm, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) is a newly emerged invasive pests causing devastating loss on tomato production globally. Semiochemical-based management is a promising method for controlling this pest.

Molecular Disruption of Ion Transport Peptide Receptor Results in Impaired Water Homeostasis and Developmental Defects in Bombyx mori

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
Insect ion transport peptides (ITPs) are important regulators of many physiological processes and they exert their functions by interacting with their receptors (ITPRs). In the current study, we comprehensively investigated the physiological functions of

The Powdery Mildew Effector CSEP0027 Interacts With Barley Catalase to Regulate Host Immunity

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Powdery mildew is one of the most important fungal pathogen diseases. The genome of barley mildew fungus, Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei (Bgh), encodes a large number of candidate secreted effector proteins (CSEPs). So far, the function and mechanism of

Predators vs. alien: differential biotic resistance to an invasive species by two resident predators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The success of invading species can be restricted by interspecific interactions such as competition and predation (i.e. biotic resistance) from resident species, which may be natives or previous invaders.

Soil Inorganic Electron Acceptors and Carbon Substrates Hierarchically Govern Wetland Methanogenesis Temperature Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wetlands constitute Earth's largest natural methane (CH4) source, yet projections of their climate feedback remain uncertain due to poorly constrained temperature sensitivity (Q10‐CH4) of microbial methanogenesis. While water table dynamics have been demonstrated to regulate wetland methanogenesis by altering key soil conditions such as ...

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

Microbiome assembly on Drosophila body surfaces benefits the flies to combat fungal infections

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: In contrast to the well-characterized gut microbiomes, the composition and function of the insect body-surface microbiotas are still elusive and highly underexplored.

Condition‐Associated Pattern Extraction and Recovery From Multi‐Condition Single‐Cell RNA‐seq Data With CAPER

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Decoupling biological signals from unwanted variation in multi‑condition single‑cell RNA sequencing data remains challenging. CAPER disentangles condition‑associated biological effects from sample heterogeneity through matrix factorization, producing interpretable latent factors and a batch‑corrected expression matrix.

Hollow Cu2O Nanozymes Enhance Probiotic Therapy for Colitis via Redox Homeostasis and TXNIP/NLRP3 Inflammasome Inhibition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hollow cuprous oxide (H‐Cu2O) nanozymes feature enlarged catalytic surfaces for superior reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging. By efficiently neutralizing mucosal ROS, H‐Cu2O directly suppresses the TXNIP/NLRP3 inflammasome axis and restores intestinal epithelial barrier integrity.
