Habitat heterogeneity and biotic interactions mediate climate influences on seedling survival in a temperate forest

open access: yes, 2023
Seedling stage has long been recognized as the bottleneck of forest regeneration, and the biotic and abiotic processes that dominate at seedling stage largely affect the dynamics of forest. Seedlings might be particularly vulnerable to climate stress, so

Resistant Peanut Genotype Reprograms Rhizosphere Metabolism to Enhance Bacterial Wilt Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The resistant peanut genotype selectively recruits beneficial bacteria, which coincides with the activation of salicylic acid (SA)‐dependent systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against Ralstonia solanacearum. Keystone rhizosphere metabolites are positively correlated with both beneficial microbiome assembly and SAR gene expression.

Regulatory Mechanisms of Cell Polyploidy in Insects

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Polyploidy cells undergo the endocycle to generate DNA amplification without cell division and have important biological functions in growth, development, reproduction, immune response, nutrient support, and conferring resistance to DNA damage in animals.

Biotic interactions and biogeochemical processes in the soil environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Soils play a key role in the terrestrial carbon (C) cycle by storing and emitting large quantities of C. The impact of abiotic conditions (mainly soil temperature and moisture) on soil C turnover is well documented, but unravelling the influence of these

A Conserved DT2‐bZIP66‐NF‐YC4 Regulatory Module Confers Drought Tolerance in Rice and Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a conserved tripartiteDT2–bZIP66–NF‐YC4 transcriptional module that enhances rice drought tolerance by activating stress‐responsive genes. This regulatory complex is functionally conserved across cereals and Arabidopsis, providing promising targets for engineering drought‐resilient crops. ABSTRACT Drought stress severely restricts

Plant basal resistance: genetics, biochemistry, and impacts on plant-biotic interactions

open access: yes, 2012
Basal resistance depends largely on a diverse range of defence mechanisms that become active upon attack by pathogens or insects. These mechanisms range from rapid stomatal closure and production of reactive oxygen species, to callose deposition and ...

Forecasting marine invasions under climate change: Biotic interactions and demographic processes matter

open access: yes, 2016
Biological invasions are one of the most significant threats to marine biodiversity, and can be facilitated and amplified by climate change. Among all aspects of invasion biology, biotic interactions between invaders and native species are of particular ...

From Defense Executor to Engineering Target: Harnessing Lignin for Crop Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lignin serves as both a physical and chemical executor of broad‐spectrum plant immunity. This review systematically summarizes classical and recent advances in lignin‐mediated immunity, outlines the multifaceted regulatory modules controlling lignification under biotic stress, discusses key physiological and biochemical mechanisms behind lignin‐based ...

A moth odorant receptor highly expressed in the ovipositor is involved in detecting host-plant volatiles

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Antennae are often considered to be the nostrils of insects. Here, we sequenced the transcriptome of the pheromone gland-ovipositor complex of Helicoverpa assulta and discovered that an odorant receptor (OR) gene, HassOR31, had much higher expression in ...

Biotic homogenization in tree communities of tropical forests: a systematic review

open access: yes, 2023
A systematic literature review was conducted on biotic homogenization in tropical forests and its consequences for the diversity of tree communities. We evaluated articles indexed in Scopus® and Web of Science® from 1945 to 2022.
