Periphytic algal biomass in two distinct regions of a tropical coastal lake
AIM: This study assessed the phycoperiphyton biomass in two regions submitted to different human impacts on Juara Lake, a coastal ecosystem with multiple uses, to order to test the hypothesis that the sampling sites that receive domestic sewage shows ...

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the algal periphytic community structure on substrates with differing surface roughness in early and longer-term colonization; METHODS: Periphyton was sampled after 30 days (June 24 to July 24, 2008) and 5 days (July 07 ...

Effects of climate on size structure and functioning of aquatic food webs [PDF]
In aquatic food webs, the role of body size is notoriously strong. It is also well known that temperature has an effect on body size. For instance, Bergmann’s rule states that body size increases from warm to cold climates.

Decrease of diatom biovolume in biofilms exposed to arsenic

Prelimnary biovolume characterisation of zooplankton community in Omi Dam, Nigeria
The study examined the zooplankton biomass in Omi dam to identify which specie(s) among the major ones under consideration, contributed most to the recruitment and growth of fish in the dam. Rotifera took the dominance in terms of species, followed by cladocerans and copepod respectively.

Planktonic Cyanobacteria of the tropical karstic lake Lagartos from the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
The tropical karstic lakes on the Mexican Caribbean Sea coast are numerous. However, there is an enormous gap of knowledge about their limnological conditions and micro-algae communities. In the present study, surface water samples were collected monthly
