Analysis of biparietal diameter as an accurate indicator of gestational age

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1980
AbstractTo date, there have been 25 studies attempting to correlate biparietal diameter and gestational age; of these, 17 meet specific criteria and thus are included in this evaluation. Although all studies have shown an increase in biparietal diameter with advancing gestational age, between 17 wk and term there is a discrepancy of approximately 3 wk.

Normal growth of the fetal biparietal diameter in an African population

International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 1986
AbstractThe fetal biparietal diameter (BPD) was measured by ultrasound during normal pregnancy in 558 Nigerian women. The range of BPD values for each week of pregnancy from 12 weeks until term (713 measurements) was computed from cross‐sectional data. The data were used to illustrate the variation in weekly growth rate according to fetal maturity and ...

Is the biparietal diameter of fetuses in late gestation too variable to predict readiness for cesarean section in dogs? [PDF]

open access: yesTheriogenology, 2018
Correct assessment of readiness for cesarean section is essential for timing elective cesarean section during late pregnancy in the bitch. In humans, biparietal diameter is sufficiently precise and accurate and used in a clinical setting daily.

Biometrical threshold of biparietal diameter for certain fetal sex assignment by ultrasound

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1999
The aim of this study was to establish the biometric threshold of biparietal diameter (BPD), assumed to be an independent variable of gestational age, at which 100\% accuracy in the assessment of fetal sex by ultrasonography is achievable.Transvaginal ...

The fetal biparietal diameter

European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 1976
Abstract Ultrasonographic measurement of the fetal biparietal diameter (989 measurements in 669 women) was used to investigate the relationship between the pattern of these measurements and the duration of pregnancy. An exponential function was tested with a computer, and equations were calculated for both combined series and single measurements. The

Coronal biparietal diameter. A reliable alternative to the traditional transverse biparietal diameter.

Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 1990
The traditional ultrasonically derived fetal biparietal diameter (BPD) is important in the determination of fetal age, weight, and growth. This measure cannot be obtained, however, with direct occiput anterior or posterior or with a head in the pelvis.

Gray scale measurement of biparietal diameter

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1977
AbstractFetal biparietal diameter measurements were obtained simultaneously by gray scale and bistable ultrasonography. The bistable presentation was measured from leading edge to leading edge, while the gray scale presentation was measured from leading point to leading point and middle to middle of the band of echoes defining the fetal head ...

The Intrauterine Growth of the Biparietal Diameter of Twins

Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae: twin research, 1979
A series of 978 repeated ultrasonic measurements of the fetal biparietal diameter (BPD) assessed the growth of 119 twin pairs during the second half of pregnancy. The mean BPD values for each gestational week were close to the mean values for singletons. From the 32nd week, the BPD growth curves for twins deviated from that for singletons.
