The Raman spectrum of biphenyl and biphenyl-d10

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular Spectroscopy, 1971
Abstract A set of polarized Raman spectra obtained from suitably oriented single crystals is presented together with depolarization ratio data for the lines from solution spectra. These measurements allow the symmetries of non-totally symmetric modes to be assigned for the first time from experiment alone.

The chemistry of biphenyl

Experientia, 1950

Core Excitations of Biphenyl

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2005
High-resolution C(1s) near-edge X-ray absorption and X-ray photoionization spectra of the free biphenyl molecule are presented and theoretically analyzed in order to allow an assignment of the observed spectral features. Finite lifetime broadening, a high density of vibrational states, and a strong overlap of contributions from chemically different ...

Metabolism of biphenyl in the rat

Journal of Chromatography A, 1978
The metabolism of biphenyl in the rat has been studied by using gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods. The free and conjugated urinary metabolites were characterized. Eight new metabolites were isolated: a dihydrodiol and two hydroxydihydrodiols were characteristic for the epoxide--diol pathway.

Applications of polychlorinated biphenyls

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2010
In the 50 years or so that polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were manufactured in the USA and elsewhere, they were widely used in numerous applications because of their desirable properties. The purpose of this paper is to review and summarize in one place the factual information about the uses of PCBs, as well as to correct some misconceptions that ...

Biphenyl-Exposed Rabbits

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1973
SUMMARY Rabbits fed 3 formulations of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB-1221, PCB-1242, and PCB-1254) had significantly lower serum-neutralizing antibody titers to pseudorabies virus (prv) than did rabbits which were not given the pcb formulations. The serum titers from rabbits given the 3 formulations were approximately one-half those of the controls, and

The polarized i.r. spectrum of biphenyl and biphenyl-d10

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular Spectroscopy, 1975
Abstract The i.r. spectra of biphenyl and biphenyl- d 10 in the range 80 to 3500 cm −1 have been measured polarized along three mutually perpendicular directions in the crystal; the c polarized spectra are reported here for the first time.

Analysis of polybrominated biphenyls

Journal of Chromatography A, 1977
High-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, ultraviolet spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry have been used to characterize the behaviour of a number of individual brominated biphenyls and to assess the composition of several mixtures of these compounds.

Polybrominated Biphenyls and Diphenylethers

2000
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs), also called brominated diphenyl oxides, are produced and used as flame retardants. There are theoretically 209 different congeners of both PBBs and PBDEs. These congeners have specific chemical and physical properties, which lead to different biological and toxicological effects.
