Bipolar cautery tonsillectomy using different energy doses: Pain and bleeding

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2014
Tonsillectomies are the most frequently applied operations in the ENT practice. Even though different surgical tonsillectomy techniques have been used, bipolar cautery is the most frequently used one. Our aim was to compare postoperative bleeding rates, pain scores and recovery times in tonsillectomies performed by using bipolar cautery in Joules ...

Bipolar radiofrequency track cautery during abdominal biopsies: teaching points and lessons learned

open access: closedAbdominal Radiology
Abdominal percutaneous needle biopsies are commonly performed minimally invasive procedures to obtain tissue samples for histopathological diagnosis. Severe post-biopsy bleeding is uncommon but can be associated with prolonged hospitalization, additional interventions, morbidity, and death.

Thermoprotective Mechanisms of Irrigation During Bipolar Cautery

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1997
Bipolar cautery is routinely used in operations of the head and neck, as well as in other specialties, both for dissection and for achieving hemostasis. Whereas simultaneous irrigation is frequently used to minimize neuronal injury, its effectiveness has not been tested under controlled conditions.

Bipolar Cautery for Laparoscopic Sterilization

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1978
Abstract. Laparoscopic sterilization with a bipolar electrode was performed in 62 patients. The sterilization failed in one patient and was questionable in another. The effectiveness was assessed by hysterosalpingography (HSG) in 51 patients. No complications due to laparoscopy occurred.

Sterilization failures with bipolar tubal cautery

Fertility and Sterility, 1984
From a consecutive series of 105 patients undergoing bipolar tubal sterilization (BPS), ten pregnancies were reported, and a tubal patency rate of 16% was found at hysterosalpingography. There were no significant clinical variables separating the BPS failure patients from those with successful sterilization.

A Novel Bipolar Cautery Tool for Minimally-Invasive Neuroendoscopic Procedures

2020 42nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2020
Electrosurgery is used in the operating room on a daily basis as a means to cut tissue and maintain hemostasis. The principle of this technology lies in the transfer of electricity from an electrosurgical unit to the operating site on a patient's body and modifying the waveform of that electricity to achieve the desired surgical effect. Bipolar cautery
