Bipolar diathermy tonsillectomy
Clinical Otolaryngology, 1994Tonsillectomy is an operation performed by various techniques. We have developed a bipolar diathermy dissection technique that allows a low intra-operative blood loss without an increase in complications. The average blood loss was less than 4 ml in 100 patients. Most were able to drink and eat by 4 and 10 hours respectively.

Bipolar loop device versus bipolar diathermy for tonsillectomy: A pilot randomized controlled trial
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2021Tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgeries performed in the pediatric population. Although different forms of instruments and various methods are used to perform tonsillectomy, none of them is still recognized as the best global technique. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of the new Bipolar Loop tonsillectomy versus bipolar diathermy ...

A comparison of bipolar and monopolar diathermy probes in experimental animals
Urological Research, 1985The effects of monopolar and bipolar diathermy were studied in laboratory animals. The power required to coagulate transected vessels in air was established and the effect of immersion in saline and water during electrocoagulation was investigated. Tissue heat conduction from each type of probe was measured and compared.

Bipolar diathermy versus cold dissection in paediatric tonsillectomy
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2009To compare bipolar diathermy with cold dissection in paediatric tonsillectomy. One hundred and fifty children were randomized equally into bipolar diathermy tonsillectomy (BDT) and cold dissection tonsillectomy (CDT). Operative time, operative blood loss, postoperative pain, diet intake, activity level and complications were compared in the 2 groups. The

Standard bipolar diathermy forceps vessel ligation is safe in thyroidectomy
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2009Bleeding is a major complication of thyroid surgery. A retrospective study was performed comparing the outcomes of patients undergoing thyroid surgery where bipolar diathermy with standard bipolar forceps was used for vessel ligation (n = 64) compared to clamp-and-tie (n = 89).

Bimanual, Bipolar Intraocular Diathermy
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1976We performed bimanual, bipolar intraocular diathermy by using a No. 22 disposable needle and a vitrectomy instrument. The technique required a smaller wound than unimanual bipolar cautery and was combined with membrane peeling techniques. The bipolar technique limited the extent of coagulation effects better than unipolar diathermy methods.

“Doughnut” Bimanual Bipolar Diathermy Electrodes
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1983Bimanual bipolar diathermy is one of several methods available for the prevention and control of bleeding during vitreous surgery. 1 Alligator clips as well as specially designed insulated microclips have been used to convert the metallic intraocular portion of vitrectomy instrumentation into the two poles of a bipolar cautery.

Back-Flush Bipolar Diathermy Needle
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1987ABSTRACT We have developed a back-flush needle with a built-in capability for endodiathermy. This new instrument can both aspirate blood and coagulate the bleeding vessel.
