Deacidification of Cranberry Juice by Electrodialysis with Bipolar Membranes

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2015
Cranberry is recognized for its many benefits on human health; however, its high acidity may be a limiting factor for its consumption. This study aimed to investigate the deacidification of cranberry juice using a two simultaneous step electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM) process.

Heterogeneous bipolar membranes and their application in electrodialysis

Desalination, 2014
Abstract Over the last 50 years, ion exchange membranes have evolved from a laboratory tool to industrial products with significant technical and commercial impacts. Bipolar membranes (BPMs), as a result of their ability to produce acid and alkali from corresponding salt, occupy a special place among them.

Utilisation of bipolar electrodialysis for recovery of galacturonic acid

Desalination, 2010
Galacturonic acid is an acidifying agent and can be utilized in the food industry. It can be recovered from the hydrolysate of various pectins by electrodialysis. In this work bipolar electrodialysis was applied to separated and concentrated galacturonic acid and finally a crystallised product was obtained.

Separation of gluconate with conventional and bipolar electrodialysis

Desalination, 1997
Abstract Gluconate, predominantly produced by fermentation, is widely used in the form of sodium gluconate, gluconic acid or glucono-δ-lactone as a bulk chemical. Because of undesirable by-products, the conventional isolation and purification method (mainly ion exchange) is problematic, especially when gluconic acid is generated.

Salicylic acid production by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes

Journal of Membrane Science, 1997
Abstract Production of salicylic acid from sodium salicylate was carried out by electrodialysis (ED) using bipolar membranes (BPM). The process feasibility was tested using a laboratory ED-cell with a membrane area of 40 cm 2 . The performances of two commercial bipolar membranes (Tokuyama Soda and Stantech membranes) are compared.

Production of lithium hydroxide by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes

Separation and Purification Technology, 2021
Abstract In conventional lithium extraction processes, highly purified lithium sulfate is generated as an intermediate, which is transformed into lithium hydroxide for lithium-ion battery applications. This study illustrates the technical feasibility of converting the pre-purified lithium sulfate (Li2SO4) into lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and sulfuric ...

Electrodialysis with bipolar membrane for regeneration of a spent activated carbon

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009
The main purpose of the present work was to develop a treatment method to regenerate granular adsorbent beds saturated with H(2)S by utilizing three electrodialysis compartments equipped with a cation or an anion exchange membrane or a bipolar membrane.

Comparison of Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis, Electrodialysis Metathesis, and Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis Metathesis for the Conversion of Waste Na2so4: Process Performance and Economic Analysis

Journal of Environmental Management
To convert Na2SO4 into other high-value products (NaOH, H2SO4, and (NH4)2SO4), three types of cell configurations of electrodialysis (ED) were applied (three-compartment bipolar membrane ED (BMED), four-compartment ED metathesis (EDM) and five-compartment bipolar membrane ED multifunction (BMEDM)) and parameters such as average voltage variation ...

Fractionation of multicomponent solutions by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes

Petroleum Chemistry, 2012
The process of electrodialysis with bipolar membranes and the performance characteristics of plants that use this process are described. The first results of the laboratory tests of an electrodialysis plant with bipolar membranes are given; these results show that the salt wastes of nuclear power plants can be practically utilized with the manufacture ...
