Microbial Fuel Cell Equipped with Bipolar Membrane Using Iron (III) Hydroxide as Final Electron Acceptor

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In this paper, we presented a novel microbial fuel cell (bMFC) structure, with a bipolar membrane separating the anode and cathode chambers. A bipolar membrane divides the bMFC into anode and cathode chambers.

Stable overall water splitting in an asymmetric acid/alkaline electrolyzer comprising a bipolar membrane sandwiched by bifunctional cobalt‐nickel phosphide nanowire electrodes

open access: yesCarbon Energy, 2020
Water splitting has been proposed to be a promising approach to producing clean hydrogen fuel. The two half‐reactions of water splitting, that is, the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), take place kinetically fast in ...

In-Situ Combination of Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis with Monovalent Selective Anion-Exchange Membrane for the Valorization of Mixed Salts into Relatively High-Purity Monoprotic and Diprotic Acids

open access: yesMembranes, 2020
The crystalized mixed salts from the zero liquid discharge process are a hazardous threat to the environment. In this study, we developed a novel electrodialysis (SBMED) method by assembling the monovalent selective anion-exchange membrane (MSAEM) into ...

Effects of Current Collecting Methods for Polymer Bipolar Plate of Ultra-Light Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지, 2022
In this study, polymer bipolar plates for ultra-light polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) were fabricated. Various methods for current collecting were applied to ensure electron conductivity of the polymer bipolar plates. Direct wire contact

Bipolar Membranes for Direct Borohydride Fuel Cells—A Review

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Direct liquid fuel cells (DLFCs) operate directly on liquid fuel instead of hydrogen, as in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells. DLFCs have the advantages of higher energy densities and fewer issues with the transportation and storage of their fuels ...

Improvement in protein separation using a modulated bipolar membrane chromatography technique

open access: yesJournal of Chromatography Open
This paper discusses a novel method for improving resolution in protein separation obtained by membrane chromatography. The method is based on a bipolar membrane system involving the synergistic combination of a modulating membrane and a binding membrane

Lipidomics in research on yeast membrane lipid homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mass spectrometry is increasingly used in research on membrane lipid homeostasis, both in analyses of the steady state lipidome at the level of molecular lipid species, and in pulse-chase approaches employing stable isotope-labeled lipid precursors ...

Application Research on Desalination of Trona Brine by Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
The salt in trona brine seriously affects the soda ash recycling in the production process of soda ash, which not only results in low quality of soda ash recycling and wastes resources. Consequently, the trona brine should be desalted.

An Electrochromic Bipolar Membrane Diode

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, 2015
Conducting polymers with bipolar membranes (a complementary stack of selective membranes) may be used to rectify current. Integrating a bipolar membrane into a polymer electrochromic display obviates the need for an addressing backplane while increasing the device's bistability. Such devices can be made from solution-processable materials.
