Electrohydrodynamics of Bipolar Membranes

Doklady Physics, 2018
On the basis of the Nernst−Planck−Poisson−Stokes system, the behavior of the electrolyte solution is numerically studied for the first time in bipolar electrical membranes under the action of an external electric field while taking into account water dissociation.

Bipolar Faradaic Interfaces in Bipolar Membranes

ECS Meeting Abstracts
In this work, we demonstrated that a pinhole-free, solid-state and electron-conductive membrane can function as an ion exchange membrane or a solid electrolyte through bipolarized Faradaic interfacial reactions. The bipolar Faradaic interface membrane (BFIM) is an insulator to ionic conduction in the bulk phase.

A hybrid bipolar membrane

Journal of Membrane Science, 2010
Abstract A hybrid bipolar membrane was developed for high-temperature applications. In particular, the cation-exchange layer was prepared by hybridizing sulfonated poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (SPPO) with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (A1100) while the anion-exchange layer was prepared from a hybrid anion-exchange material—poly(VBC-co-γ ...

Evaluating the interfacial reaction kinetics of the bipolar membrane interface in the bipolar membrane fuel cell

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2013
A reaction kinetic model of the bipolar membrane interface in the bipolar membrane fuel cell (BPMFC) was proposed based on the p-n junction theory and chemical reaction kinetics. It verified the self-humidification feasibility of the BPMFC successfully.

Electrodialysis with Bipolar Membranes for Sustainable Development

Environmental Science & Technology, 2006
Electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM) is a kind of technology that integrates solvent and salt dissociation. It can realize salt conversion without second salt pollution or provide H+ and OH-/alkoxide ions in situ without salt introduction. Thus, it inherently possesses economical and environmental benefits.

Solubilization of Chitosan by Bipolar Membrane Electroacidification

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2006
Chitosan, a partially deacetylated derivative of chitin, was solubilized by bipolar membrane electroacidification (BMEA). Bipolar/monopolar (anionic or cationic) configuration and chitosan addition mode (single step or stepwise) were examined. Chitosan solubility and electroacidification parameters were monitored during the process to determine the ...

Model for ion transport in bipolar membranes

Physical Review A, 1990
A simple theory for multi-ionic transport, nonequilibrium water dissociation, and space-charge effects in bipolar membranes is developed on the basis of some of the concepts used in the solid-state n-p junction. Ion transport is described in terms of the Nernst-Planck flux equation and nonequilibrium water dissociation is accounted for by the Onsager ...

Bipolar Patterning of Polymer Membranes by Pyroelectrification

Advanced Materials, 2015
Polymer freestanding membranes with permanent bipolar patterns are fabricated by "pyroelectrification". The thermal stimulation of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) crystals simultaneously generates the pyroelectric effect, the glass transition of the polymer, and therefore the periodic electric poling of the polymer.

Deacidification of Cranberry Juice by Electrodialysis with Bipolar Membranes

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2015
Cranberry is recognized for its many benefits on human health; however, its high acidity may be a limiting factor for its consumption. This study aimed to investigate the deacidification of cranberry juice using a two simultaneous step electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM) process.
