A Novel Pathosystem With the Model Plant Arabidopsis thaliana for Defining the Molecular Basis of Taphrina Infections

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 3, June 2025.
A Taphrina strain, identified as Taphrina tormentillae, was shown to cause disease symptoms on the genetic model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, from which it was isolated. A genetic approach was used to implicate the known co‐receptor BAK1 in the activation of immune responses by likely PAMPs found in T. tormentillae cell walls.

Reducing Pest Risk in Birch Wood Products—The Effective Heat Treatment for Bronze Birch Borer Agrilus anxius (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) Prepupae

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 3, Page 430-441, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The protection of forest resources and the safe trade of forest products require phytosanitary measures to reduce the risk of pest movement to novel environments. Heat treatment is a widely available, efficient and effective method to produce phytosanitary wood products destined for trade.

Research of respiration of twigs and stems of the Karelian birch and Silver birch

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2016
Stem respiration of two forms of Betula pendula Roth [Silver birch (B. pendula var. pendula) and Karelian birch (B. pendula var. carelica)] was investigated.  5-6-years old trees and 2-3-years old seedlings, grown in pots, were studied.

THE ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES – INDICATORS OF DIFFERENT XYLOGENESIS SCENARIOS: IN EARLY ONTOGENY AND IN ADULT PLANTS (EXAMPLE OF BETULA PENDULA ROTH)

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2018
We studied the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD)) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) across ontogenetic stages during the formation of normal (in silver birch, Betula pendula Roth var.

Biomass structure of Pinus sylvestris and Betula pendula forest ecosystems in pollution gradient near copper plant on the Southern Ural [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the gradient of pollution from the Karabash copper smelter in the Southern Urals (55 degrees 29' N, 60 degrees 13' E) in predominantly pure Scots pine and white birch stands, 12 and 34 sample plots are established, respectively, on which 42 and 56 ...

The composition of phenolic compounds in the leaves of the birc (Betula Pendula Roth.) determining of constytutive entomoresistance parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The forest pest insects cause signifi cant ecological and economic damage to forestry. There are many aspects of the relationship in the system: “tree-insects” remain insuffi ciently studied, despite the considerable interest in this problem.
