Extended Family System in a Communal Bird

Science, 1981
The genealogical structure of an extended family system in a nonprimate species is described. In Mexican jays, social units are more complex genealogically than in most other communal birds and may contain grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins in addition to parents and older siblings.

Soundspace partitioning to increase communication efficiency in bird communities

Artificial Life and Robotics, 2012
Birds do not always vocalize at random, but may rather divide up soundspace in such a manner that they avoid overlap with the songs of other bird species. In effect, a high degree of communication efficiency can be achieved by many simultaneously active vocalists that finely integrate songs with minimal overlap. We describe this phenomenon from several

The Ecology of Bird Communities

1989
The two volumes of John Wiens' Ecology of Bird Communities have applications and importance to the whole field of ecology. The books contain a detailed synthesis of our current understanding of the patterns of organisation of bird communities and of the factors that may determine them, drawing from studies from all over the world.

Early Bird I communications parameters

Communications Satellite Systems Conference, 1966
Abstract The primary mission of the Early Bird satellite is to provide uninterrupted two-way commercial quality communications between the North American and European continents. To this end, the satellite incorporates two broadband microwave repeaters that translate in frequency and amplify FM communications carriers.

Composition and Dynamics of the Bird Community

1999
Birds have been a favourite subject of study in forest ecosystems. They are easily detectable in comparison with other vertebrate groups, and their reproductive and feeding ecology are critically determined by forest characteristics, such as the composition and structure of both the tree canopy and understory.
