Bird communication study using digital computer
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1975Computer programs for sequential behavioral patterns analysis have been developed and used to study duetting of birds (White-crested Jay Thrush). The duetting songs are composed of four syllables for female and up to 20 syllables for male. Transition probabilities between syllables, pairs, triplets and subsequences have been measured.

Early Bird I communications parameters
Communications Satellite Systems Conference, 1966Abstract The primary mission of the Early Bird satellite is to provide uninterrupted two-way commercial quality communications between the North American and European continents. To this end, the satellite incorporates two broadband microwave repeaters that translate in frequency and amplify FM communications carriers.

Drawing predominately on a once-a-day Google News Alert for newspaper coverage of the “bird flu,” this study examines global discourses on this topic in terms of alarming and reassuring coverage. Three stages of discourse are identified. The first is termed sounding the alarm, where fearful claims making predominates. The second is mixed messages, and

Bird communities of highland birchwoods
Bird Study, 1989Breeding birds in 36 birchwoods in the Scottish Highlands were counted by point censuses which generated 4630 records of 28 species. Community gradients were found by Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DECORANA) and identified by regressing site scores on habitat factors.

Community convergence in bird song
Evolutionary Ecology, 2009Species in similar habitats are often similar in morphology or behaviour, attributed to adaptation to similar environmental selection pressures, sometimes mediated by competitive interactions. For passerine songs, similarity of phenotype in identical habitats and character displacement have been documented, the former due to adaptation to the acoustics
