Shifting baselines increase the risk of misinterpreting biodiversity trends
Ecological studies quantifying the impact of land‐use change on biodiversity may be sensitive to the choice of reference points – or baselines – particularly when sampling across human land‐use gradients and other space‐for‐time comparisons. Much depends on whether the chosen baseline has already undergone shifts in species composition because of ...

Climate change is altering plant reproductive phenology; however, a scarcity of long‐term, systematic monitoring hinders our ability to quantify and predict these responses in many parts of the world. We addressed this gap by demonstrating how data integration can be used to produce a synthesised record of reproductive phenology observations (flowering

In this work, a polyurethane‐based fluorinated SICEs with excellent mechanical properties (7.35 MPa and 61.4 MJ m−3), conductivity (4.2 × 10−4 S cm−1), and harsh environmental resistance were prepared by a “three birds with one stone” strategy that combines multiple interactions with fluorine effects. The paper‐folding TENG is capable of harvesting not

Benefiting from the synergistic effect between the tri‐components, the hybrid interlayer can not only improve the wettability of NZSP to Na and promote the rapid migration of Na+ ions (Na3Sb with sodiophilic) but also effectively prevent the electron from intruding into the electrolyte at the interface and inhibit the growth of dendrites (NaCl and Na2O

Having trained as a civil engineer and surveyor, the ornithologist William Eagle Clarke (1853–1938) established himself in his field by preparing reports on bird migration for the British Association. Focusing on the species passing through the British Isles, Clarke spent many months in various lighthouses and on remote islands.

Information on bird navigation obtained by British long range radars [PDF]
Radar observations of the migratory habits of passerine birds over a 10 year period are presented. The relationships between intensity of cloud cover and the frequency and density of migration are illustrated.
