Trade-offs, condition dependence and stopover site selection by migrating sandpipers [PDF]
Western sandpipers Calidris mauri on southward migration fly over the Gulf of Alaska to the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia, where they stop for a few days to replenish reserves before continuing.

Smart Bioinspired Material‐Based Actuators: Current Challenges and Prospects
This work gathers, in a review style, an extensive and comprehensive literature overview on the development of autonomous actuators based on synthetic materials, bringing together valuable knowledge from several studies. Furthermore, the article identifies the fundamental principles of actuation mechanisms and defines key parameters to address the size

Birds time their life cycle events to favourable windows in environmental conditions. In tropical environments, where photoperiod variation is small, birds show high variability in the timing of life cycle stages, yet these species have been severely ...

Why is timing of bird migration advancing when individuals are not? [PDF]
Recent advances in spring arrival dates have been reported in many migratory species but the mechanism driving these advances is unknown. As population declines are most widely reported in species that are not advancing migration, there is an urgent need

CAUIM: Amazonian Cassava‐Based Programmable Biocolloid
Bridging indigenous heritage and computation, this work introduces the usage of cauim, a traditional Amazonian cassava fermented beverage, as a programmable memristive‐like substrate and resistance switching. The material exhibits frequency‐dependent dynamics enabling reconfigurable Boolean logic operations.

Stable isotope ratios indicate that body condition in migrating passerines is influenced by winter habitat [PDF]
Although predicted some time ago, there has been little success in demonstrating that the overall fitness of migratory birds depends on the combined influences of their experiences over all seasons.

ABSTRACT This review article critically examines the environmental and health hazards of tannery sludge (TS), a complex by‐product of the leather tanning industry. TS is characterized by a diverse array of contaminants, including heavy metals like chromium, organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds ...

Abstract Dinosaurs evolved a unique respiratory system with air sacs that contributed to their evolutionary success. Postcranial skeletal pneumaticity (PSP) has been used to infer the presence of air sac systems in some fossil archosaurs. While unambiguous evidence of PSP is well documented in pterosaurs and post‐Carnian saurischians, it remains absent
