Consistency of spatio‐temporal patterns of avian migration across the Swiss lowlands

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, 2020
Each year, billions of birds migrate across the continents by day and night through airspaces increasingly altered by human activity, resulting in the deaths of millions of birds every year through collisions with man‐made structures.

Natural Resistance to Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome in Estrildid Finches Reveals Macrophage GPR183 as a Potential Therapeutic Target

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ovarian macrophage depletion reverses OHSS resistance in estrildid finches and exacerbates OHSS symptoms in rats. Activating macrophage GPR183 alleviates OHSS by reducing pro‐inflammatory factors, increasing immunomodulatory molecules, remodeling CD44/SDC4‐mediated communication, and restoring immune homeostasis.

Arctic Bird Migration Monitoring Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this resource is to observe when selected bird species first arrive at your study site, and to count the numbers until few or none of these birds are seen.

Using life-history traits to explain bird population responses to changing weather variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Bird population dynamics are expected to change in response to increased weather variability, an expression of climate change. The extent to which species are sensitive to effects of weather on survival and reproduction depends on their life-history ...

Quantum Nanomedicine and Quantum Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this perspective, we define quantum nanomedicine and quantum biomaterials as a paradigm that harnesses quantum effects in nanomedicine and biomaterials, including quantum superposition, quantum coherence, quantum tunneling, topological quantum effects, and spin polarization, to achieve either spatiotemporally precise modulation of physiological ...

Organic Thin‐Film Transistors for Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Organic thin‐film transistors (OTFTs) are reviewed for neuromorphic computing applications, highlighting their power‐efficient, and biological time‐scale operation. This article surveys OFET and OECT devices, compares them with memristors and CMOS, analyzes how fabrication parameters shape spike‐based metrics, proposes standardized characterization ...

The global ecology of bird migration: patterns and processes

open access: yesFrontiers of Biogeography, 2016
Nearly 20% of bird species are migratory, their seasonal movements causing a redistribution of bird diversity that radically changes avian community composition worldwide.

Facultative Altitudinal Movements by Mountain White-Crowned Sparrows (Zonotrichia Leucophrys Oriantha) in the Sierra Nevada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mountain White-crowned Sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys oriantha) winter in Mexico and often arrive in the vicinity of their breeding grounds in the Sierra Nevada well before nesting is possible.

Silicon Nitride Resistive Memories

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous SiNx is an attractive resistance switching material for ReRAM applications due to its physicochemical properties, such as humidity resistance, low oxygen diffusivity, and is used as a metal diffusion blocker. By modifying the ratio between N and Si atoms, the microstructure of the SiNx is affected, rendering it possible to change the ...
