Visualizing and Quantifying Indentation‐Induced Densification and Cracking in Vitreous Silica

A nanofocus X‐ray scattering method maps how vitreous silica densifies and cracks in situ beneath a sharp indenter. Spatially resolved structural measurements reveal the evolving temporary and permanent densification zones, together with load‐dependent crack formation.

Complex Refractive Index Determination Via Microspectroscopy Through Magnifying Optics: Challenges and Opportunities

Microspectroscopy combines a standard optical microscope with a spectrometer to measure reflectance and transmittance of samples down to the microscale. A numerical formalism that explicitly accounts for the high numerical aperture of magnifying optics retrieves complex refractive indices.
