Optical fiber Sagnac interferometer for sensing scalar directional refraction: application to magnetochiral birefringence [PDF]
We present a set-up dedicated to the measurement of the small scalar directional anisotropies associated to the magnetochiral interaction. The apparatus, based on a polarization-independent fiber Sagnac interferometer, is optimized to be insensitive to ...

High resolution polarization-independent high-birefringence fiber loop mirror sensor
In this work, two all polarization-maintaining (PM) high-birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber loop mirrors (FLM) which are immune to external polarization perturbations are validated both theoretically and experimentally. Simplified and stable versions of classical FLMs were attained using a PM-coupler and by fusing the different Hi-Bi fiber sections with an ...

Jones calculus analysis of single-mode fibre Sagnac reflector
It is postulated that stray birefringence degrades the performance of the single-mode fiber Sagnac reflector. An expression for the birefringence dependence of reflector performance is derived using the Jones calculus and is used as the basis for a ...

Fiber-diffraction Interferometer using Coherent Fiber Optic Taper [PDF]
We present a fiber-diffraction interferometer using a coherent fiber optic taper for optical testing in an uncontrolled environment. We use a coherent fiber optic taper and a single-mode fiber having thermally-expanded core.

An original method is presented for producing artificial spider silk fibers with magnetic and magnetomechanical responsiveness, which consists in coating them with a nanometer‐thick layer of FeCo alloy by sputtering deposition. The challenge of combining organic materials and inorganic magnetic nanostructures is addressed, thus taking a step forward ...

We describe a geometry for a Sagnac interferometer with a zero-area Sagnac loop for measuring magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE) at cryogenic temperatures. The apparatus is capable of measuring absolute polar Kerr rotation at 1550 nm wavelength without any

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Amphiphilic chloroazobenzenes, bearing different amino acids as end groups alanine, phenylalanine, and valine, exhibit excellent photoisomerizations. Varying structures of three amino acid groups participate in supramolecular formations and therefore photoinduced morphological transformations via adjusting intermolecular interactions. These interaction
