Poleward moving auroral forms (PMAFs) revisited: responses of aurorae, plasma convection and Birkeland currents in the pre- and postnoon sectors under positive and negative IMF By conditions [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2007
Using five case studies, we investigate the dynamical evolution of dayside auroral precipitation in relation to plasma convection, classifying it by the IMF By component and position with respect to noon. Auroral observations were made by meridian

High-latitude electromagnetic and particle energy flux during an event with sustained strongly northward IMF [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2005
We present a case study of a prolonged interval of strongly northward orientation of the interplanetary magnetic field on 16 July 2000, 16:00-19:00 UT to characterize the energy exchange between the magnetosphere and ionosphere for conditions ...

Spiral structures and regularities in magnetic field variations and auroras [PDF]

open access: yesHistory of Geo- and Space Sciences, 2012
The conception of spiral shaped precipitation regions, where solar corpuscles penetrate the upper atmosphere, was introduced into geophysics by C. Störmer and K. Birkeland at the beginning of the last century.

Birkeland current effects on high‐latitude ground magnetic field perturbations [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2015
AbstractMagnetic perturbations on ground at high latitudes are directly associated only with the divergence‐free component of the height‐integrated horizontal ionospheric current, J⊥,df. Here we show how J⊥,df can be expressed as the total horizontal current J⊥ minus its curl‐free component, the latter being completely determined by the global ...

Developmental dynamics of symptoms of emotional problems in childhood and adolescence: A longitudinal network analysis

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
This study examined how emotional symptoms co‐develop from childhood to adolescence using longitudinal data from over 11,000 children and adolescents. Network analyses revealed reciprocal links between core symptoms of anxiety and depression, with no significant differences between males and females.

Posttraumatic stress disorder symptom change in youth after trauma‐focused cognitive behavioral therapy: Insights from cross‐sectional and cross‐lagged panel network analysis

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, EarlyView.
Abstract Trauma‐focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF‐CBT) is an evidence‐based treatment widely used for youth experiencing symptoms related to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study used both cross‐sectional and cross‐lagged panel network (CLPN) analyses to examine changes in PTSD symptom networks following TF‐CBT and explore their ...

Magnetospheric Dynamo Driving Large‐scale Birkeland Currents [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2019
AbstractBased upon recent global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, we provide a theoretical foundation for magnetospheric dynamos driving large‐scale field‐aligned current (FAC) systems. In the framework of MHD, the dynamo is a process in which plasma thermal energy is converted to electromagnetic energy.

Adolescent mental health in Hong Kong: a longitudinal analysis of positive self‐evaluation, contextual influences and adverse experiences (2009–2014)

open access: yesChild and Adolescent Mental Health, EarlyView.
Background To examine whether positive self‐evaluation and contextual variables—such as those created by family, peers and schools—serve as promotive factors or protective factors in the context of adversity. Methods Data were drawn from two waves of the youth survey of a population‐representative cohort in Hong Kong.

Client‐Perpetrated Violence and Intent to Leave Among Child Welfare Workers: A Three‐Wave Cross‐Lagged Prospective Study of Causal Directions and the Role of Work‐Related Worrying

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Client‐perpetrated violence and turnover intentions are widespread problems among child‐welfare workers and are associated with both personal and organizational consequences. To elucidate their longitudinal association, the current study built on the cognitive activation theory of stress (CATS) and investigated (H1) whether client‐perpetrated ...

Unsteady Dungey cycle from the point of view of Stokes’ theorem

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
The Dungey cycle is considered from the formation of a magnetic barrier and necessary for dayside reconnection conditions till the electric field generation around the Birkeland current loop and magnetic flux circulation balance.
