The Effects of Smoking during Pregnancy on Birth Outcomes in Southern Jordan

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology
Background: Fetal exposure to maternal smoking has been implicated as a contributing factor to birth complications and subsequent developmental impairments in children.

DELIVERY AND PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTION

open access: yesİstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi, 2021
Urinary incontinence, anal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and sexual dysfunction are included in the definition of pelvic floor dysfunction. Pregnancy and childbirth play a major role in the emergence of pelvic floor dysfunction, which is seen in 41%

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Gaye Çarmıklı Koleksiyonu ve Sadberk Hanım Müzesi’nden Doğuran Kadın Amuletleri / The Amulets for Woman Giving Birth in the Gaye Çarmıklı Collection and Sadberk Hanım Museum

open access: yesArkhaia Anatolika, 2023
The amulets of mold-made glass depicted a nude squatting fat female figure, with both hands placed in her genital area are a group of finds that are concentrated in ancient cities on the Egyptian, Levant and North African coasts during the Hellenistic ...

Various birth techniques: home birth, water birth, lotus birth, hypno birth, and birth position

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Perinatology
Background: The birth process varies greatly; health workers should be able to provide education about each technique and help patients plan their labor process. Each delivery technique is assessed from the mother's side and the baby's side, not only for patient satisfaction but also for patient safety.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Nothing into Something and Vice Versa: A Cosmological Scenario

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
In the almost empty universe (with almost no matter in it), stochastic gravitational waves (SGW) of finite amplitude produce a de Sitter regime as a solution, which is invariant with respect to the Wick rotation. Asymptotically, super horizon SGWs do not

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Birth intervals, postponement, and fertility decline in Africa: a new type of transition? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigated birth-interval dynamics in 24 African countries using data from 76 Demographic and Health Surveys conducted since 1986. Controlling for selection bias in the birth-history data using the Brass-Juárez method and regression models produced ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
