Passive thigh heating improves peak force production in younger adults and early isokinetic force production in younger and older adults

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Older adults often suffer from reduced physical capability relative to young adults, in part due to impaired muscle function. This study investigated the ergogenic effects of passive thigh heating on knee extensor torque production in healthy older versus younger adults.

The effect of repeated hot water immersion on microvascular function, glycaemic control and inflammation in White European and South Asian males

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Individuals of South Asian (SA) descent display a higher risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus than their White European (WE) counterparts. Heat therapy, such as hot water immersion (HWI), can improve microvascular function and glycaemic control, although effects across racial groups are unknown.

Intermittent hypoxia interventions for inducing ventilatory acclimatization to high altitude?

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Accumulation of ∼200 h of hypoxia exposure (pre‐acclimatization) has been suggested to prevent the development of acute mountain sickness when a person is subsequently exposed to high altitude. These pre‐exposures are typically undertaken intermittently at or near the place of residence, primarily during sleep in hypoxic tents, and are likely ...

Cretaceous–Palaeogene Plate Boundary Evolution at the Pacific Margins of Zealandia and West Antarctica

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 4, December 2026.
Improved satellite‐derived gravity data support updated interpretations and models of ancient plate boundaries and plate motions affecting Zealandia and West Antarctica. The models combine to confidently resolve hundreds of kilometres of Late Cretaceous–Eocene motion between the Pacific and Lord Howe plates, confirming that plate circuit constructions ...

Becoming in the Research: A Han Chinese Tauiwi Account of Evolving Positionality in Māori Research Contexts

open access: yesKōtuitui: New Zealand Journal of Social Sciences Online, Volume 21, Issue 4, December 2026.
Positionality statements can identify a researcher's social and cultural location, but they may reveal little about how positional understanding develops through research relationships or affects research conduct. This paper presents a reflexive narrative account of my experience as a Han Chinese adult migrant and tauiwi (non‐Māori) researcher working ...
