Abstract Bismuth (Bi), derived from the German Weisse Masse (white mass), is a grayish-white, crystalline heavy metal classified in group V of the periodic table, atomic number 83, and atomic weight 208.98. Its MP is 271.4°C and its BP is 1564 ± 5°C. The only stable valency is 3+.
