Bisphosphonates (BP) are used in the treatment of severe osteoporosis and metastasis of malignant diseases. Bisphosphonates are generally administered either orally or intravenously. Orally administered bisphosphonates are primarilly used in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, and Paget's disease.
