Numerical Studies of Optical Bistability of Absorptive Type

open access: yes, 2011
Theoretical analysis is presented to search for the purely absorptive optical bistability in a Fabry-Perot cavity filled with a saturable absorber. A simple model of singlet absorption is used on numerically solving the relationships between the input ...

Auto‐Routing Fluidic Printed Circuit Boards

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces (STREAM) software tool for routing efficiently advanced macrofluidics, an open‐source software tool for automating the design of 3D‐printable fluidic circuit boards. STREAM streamlines tube routing and layout, enabling the rapid fabrication of fluidic networks for soft robotics, lab‐on‐a‐chip devices, microfluidics, and biohybrid ...

Detection of biological switches using the method of Gröebner bases

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background Bistability and ability to switch between two stable states is the hallmark of cellular responses. Cellular signaling pathways often contain bistable switches that regulate the transmission of the extracellular information to the nucleus where

Temperature Dependence of Optical Bistability in Superconductor–Semiconductor Photonic Crystals Embedded with Graphene

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
We theoretically investigate the optical bistability in superconductor–semiconductor photonic crystals composed of graphene. The photonic crystals are symmetric to the center and arranged alternately by the superconductor (HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+δ) and ...

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Bistability: requirements on cell-volume, protein diffusion, and thermodynamics. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Bistability is considered wide-spread among bacteria and eukaryotic cells, useful, e.g., for enzyme induction, bet hedging, and epigenetic switching. However, this phenomenon has mostly been described with deterministic dynamic or well-mixed stochastic ...

Hysteresis and resettable bistability.

open access: yes, 2018
Solid (dashed) lines indicate stable (unstable) equilibria for fixed values of input, Off = Low Equilibrium, B = Bistability, and On = High Equilibrium. Resettable bistability: When input signal is withdrawn from a bistable system, and the system resets ...

Origami‐Inspired Structural Design for Aquatic‐Terrestrial Amphibious Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a lightweight amphibious origami robot actuated by a single shape memory alloy wire. A rigid foldable origami structure with displacement amplification enables efficient terrestrial crawling and aquatic swimming. The addition of fan‐shaped units allows controllable turning in both environments.

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.
