Bit error rates for general beams
Applied Optics, 2008In order to analyze the effect of beam type on free space optical communication systems, bit error rate (BER) values versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are calculated for zero order and higher order general beam types, namely for Gaussian, cos-Gaussian, cosh-Gaussian, and annular beams.

Effect of anisotropy on bit error rate for an asymmetrical Gaussian beam in a turbulent ocean.
Applied Optics, 2018Effect of anisotropy on the average bit error rate (BER) is investigated when an asymmetrical Gaussian beam is propagated in an anisotropic turbulent ocean.

In this paper, on the basis of the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle, a semianalytical expression for describing on-axis scintillation index of a partially coherent flat-topped (PCFT) laser beam of weak to moderate oceanic turbulence is derived ...

A practical consideration that has so far received little attention is the correcting power of the coding required to do the job. In other words, if we need a certain improvement in channel performance, how many bits must we be able to correct? This aspect of the subject gets quite mathematical, so I shall give only a simplified view of the problem in ...

Bit Error Probability and Bit Outage Rate in Chaos Communication
Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing, 2005This paper investigates the notion of the probability of bit error (PBE) and its distribution in chaos-based communication systems; these are seen as being the fundamental quantities to both the well-known bit error rate (BER) and the new concept in chaos communications of bit outage rate (BOR).

Bit error rate of focused Gaussian beams in weak oceanic turbulence.
Journal of The Optical Society of America A-optics Image Science and Vision, 2014Formulation of the on-axis scintillation index of a focused Gaussian beam in weak oceanic turbulence is derived by using the Rytov method, and using this formulation, the average bit error rate (BER) is evaluated. The scintillation indices of collimated,

Off-track bit error rate modeling
Journal of Applied Physics, 1999Traditionally, channel generated bit error rates (BERs) at a certain signal to noise ratio (SNR) have been modeled by a Gaussian distribution function. This approach has been suitable for a peak detection channel as the analysis is performed in only one bit. In the case of a partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) channel, one data bit is determined
