Bit Error Rate Testing Of Quadrant Photodetectors

SPIE Proceedings, 1989
We evaluated candidate Quadrant Avalanche Photodiodes as optical communication receivers and optical acquisition/tracking receivers in a testbed which exercises both functions simultaneously.

Sequential Bayesian Bit Error Rate Measurement

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2004
As bit error rates decrease, the time required to measure a bit error rate (BER) or perform a BER test (i.e., to determine that a particular communications device's BER is less than some acceptable limit) increases dramatically. One cause of long measurement times is the difficulty of deciding a priori how many bits to measure to establish the BER to ...

Bit error rate in NAND Flash memories

2008 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium, 2008
NAND flash memories have bit errors that are corrected by error-correction codes (ECC). We present raw error data from multi-level-cell devices from four manufacturers, identify the root-cause mechanisms, and estimate the resulting uncorrectable bit error rates (UBER). Write, retention, and read-disturb errors all contribute.

Bit error rate in digital azimuth recording

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1987
Azimuth recording can reduce the side reading and thus allow a playback head wider than the track pitch to obtain a large tracking margin. Since the azimuth rejection is usually poor at long wavelength, it is preferred to employ a dc-free code to roll-off the long wavelength spectrum.

Convolutional Encoders to Minimize Bit‐Error‐Rate

European Transactions on Telecommunications, 2000
AbstractThe results of a computer search for convolutional encoders for the binary symmetric channel and the additive white Gaussian noise channel are reported. Both feed‐forward and feedback encoders are considered. It is shown that, when bit error rate is the design criterion.

The Information-Bit Error Rate for Block Codes

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1984
The relations between the word error probability and the decoding algorithms for block codes are reviewed. A simple approximation that does not depend upon the code weight structure or the decoding details is derived for the information-bit error rate in terms of the channel-symbol error probability.

Bit error rate performance of coded 8PSK

16th International Communications Satellite Systems Conference, 1996
This paper presents the coded BERs of low-sideband (LSB)-coded 8PSK and a semianalytic technique for computing the BERs of LSB-encoded 8PSK. The uncoded MSB, 2SB, and LSB BERs are presented, and then LSB error-correction coding is applied, and the BERs of the coded MSB, 2SB, and LSB are found.

On Monte Carlo Simulation of the Bit Error Rate

2011 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2011
Simulation, point estimation, and interval estimation of the bit error rate are rigorously examined. Exact confidence intervals based on the F-distribution approximation for the binomial and negative binomial distributions are derived. Simulations demonstrate 1) that the analysis gives accurate confidence intervals for bit error rate estimators and 2 ...

Bit error rate characterisation and modelling for GSM

IEEE GLOBECOM 1998 (Cat. NO. 98CH36250), 2002
This paper presents a method to model the bit error rate in GSM, taking as inputs the carrier to interference ratio and the speed. The procedure is based on a characterisation of the bit error rate second order statistics. Then, a technique which allows matching of both probability distribution and auto-correlation functions is applied in order to ...
