Hypoluteoidism is characterized by insufficient secretion of progesterone by the corpora lutea during pregnancy. The resulting failure to maintain progesterone concentration above a critical level presumably could lead to fetal resorbtion as well as frank abortion.

ABSTRACTOn the basis of a study of the literature and of nineteen new cases of eclampsia in dogs, the aetiology, clinical picture and treatment of the disease are discussed. Average plasma calcium concentrations in seventeen of the bitches in the authors' material was 6–16 ± 0–77 mg/100 ml; the remaining two had normal levels (over 9 mg/100 ml). Plasma

ABSTRACTThe diagnosis of pyometra in the bitch was aided by radiographic examination of the abdomen and by a total white cell count. In cases of pyometra described, some uterine distension was seen on radiographic examination. A study was made of the course of blood urea levels as a guide to prognosis.

Abstract Extract Hypoglycaemia in late pregnancy occurs commonly in the: ewe in which it is regarded as the primary disturbance in blood chemistry in the pathogenesis of pregnancy toxaemia (McClymont and Setchell, 1956). In the cow it is an extremely common post-partum condition, being implicated in the development of acetonaemia (Sampson, 1956).

Uterine Cannulation in the Bitch
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1987SummaryThe anatomical arrangements of the genital organs in the bitch have hitherto made cannulation of the uterus a difficult procedure. The techniques described here were based on the use of a “guiding device” which in principle consisted of a metal tube whose cranial end was supplied with a wire loop, shaped to clasp and fix that part of the cervix ...

Bitch, Bitch, Bitch: Personal Criticism, Feminist Theory, and Dog‐writing
Hypatia, 2012By the turn of the twenty‐first century, women writing about electing to share their lives with female canines directly confront a strange sort of backlash. Even as their extensions of the feminist forms of personal criticism contribute to significant developments in theories of sex, gender, and species, they become targets of criticism as “indulgent ...

Mammary Neoplasms of the Bitch
Journal of Comparative Pathology and Therapeutics, 1958In this paper the interrelationships of the neoplasms of the canine mammary gland are investigated. These neoplasms are a group of tumors of a great variety of histological structure and sometimes of uncertain histogenesis. Particular attention is given to the histogenesis of the mucoid cartilaginous and bony elements. From 1950-56 a macroscopic and

Meatal Recolonization in Bitches
Journal of Urology, 1977Colonization of the urethrovaginal area precedes urinary tract infection in women. Among the potential factors limiting colonization by fecal pathogens is bacterial interference, the ability of established commensals to inhibit colonization by pathogenic bacteria.

PRIMARY ovarian tumours are very rare in domestic animals (Sforna and others 2003); they may be of epithelial, germ cell, stromal sex cord or mesenchymal origin (Nielsen and Kennedy 1990, Kennedy and Miller 1993, Sforna and others 2003). Teratomas are rare tumours composed of structures derived from multiple embryonic germ cells (ectoderm, endoderm or ...

Pregnancy management in the bitch
Theriogenology, 2008Pregnancy management to optimize maternal and neonatal health begins with breeding management and the selection of normal, healthy brood stock in ideal body condition. After breeding, a commercial diet appropriate for reproduction and lactation should be fed. Typically these contain 29-32% protein of animal source, at least 18% fat, 20-30% carbohydrate,
