Hypoluteoidism is characterized by insufficient secretion of progesterone by the corpora lutea during pregnancy. The resulting failure to maintain progesterone concentration above a critical level presumably could lead to fetal resorbtion as well as frank abortion.

ABSTRACTOn the basis of a study of the literature and of nineteen new cases of eclampsia in dogs, the aetiology, clinical picture and treatment of the disease are discussed. Average plasma calcium concentrations in seventeen of the bitches in the authors' material was 6–16 ± 0–77 mg/100 ml; the remaining two had normal levels (over 9 mg/100 ml). Plasma

ABSTRACTThe diagnosis of pyometra in the bitch was aided by radiographic examination of the abdomen and by a total white cell count. In cases of pyometra described, some uterine distension was seen on radiographic examination. A study was made of the course of blood urea levels as a guide to prognosis.

Abstract Extract Hypoglycaemia in late pregnancy occurs commonly in the: ewe in which it is regarded as the primary disturbance in blood chemistry in the pathogenesis of pregnancy toxaemia (McClymont and Setchell, 1956). In the cow it is an extremely common post-partum condition, being implicated in the development of acetonaemia (Sampson, 1956).

Uterine Cannulation in the Bitch
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1987SummaryThe anatomical arrangements of the genital organs in the bitch have hitherto made cannulation of the uterus a difficult procedure. The techniques described here were based on the use of a “guiding device” which in principle consisted of a metal tube whose cranial end was supplied with a wire loop, shaped to clasp and fix that part of the cervix ...

Follicle development in cryopreserved bitch ovarian tissue grafted to immunodeficient mouse.
Reproduction, Fertility and Development, 2012The present study evaluated: (1) in vivo follicular development in canine ovarian tissue after slow freezing and xenotransplantation; and (2) the use of erythropoietin (EPO) as an angiogenic factor to optimise the transplantation procedure. Frozen-thawed

Prediction of parturition date in the bitch and queen.
Reproduction in domestic animals = Zuchthygiene, 2011Assessment of gestational age and parturition date prediction is a challenging, yet common task in clinical management of the pregnant bitch or queen. Knowing the approximate parturition date is essential for a thorough pregnancy monitoring. Radiographic

Ectopic pregnancy in an apparently healthy bitch.
The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 2012This case describes an extrauterine fetus that was discovered in an apparently healthy bitch 5 mo after whelping. The extrauterine fetus was surgically removed, and the bitch made a complete recovery.

An accurate timing of parturition is very useful for managing canine parturition. It is generally accepted that parturition in bitches occurs between 64 and 66 days after the luteinizing hormone peak.
