Bite force in the strictly subterranean rodent family of African mole‐rats (Bathyergidae): the role of digging mode, social organisation, and ecology

Functional Ecology, 2022
1. Bite force is an ecologically relevant performance trait that has been measured to better understand the adaptations to diet and habitat use. Moreover, bite force is relevant in understanding reproductive success, as well as inter-and intraspecific ...

Impact of a Pivoting Bite Tip on Bite Force Measurement Tests

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
Present a gnathodynamometer design that increases patient comfort, precision, and/or ease for the operator during bite force tests.A bite tip capable of pivoting 180° was tested on senior dental students in a double-blind trial. The tests were performed in teeth 11 and 16 with the bite tip on the long axis of the clamp and at an angle of 90° to the ...

Bite force and state of dentition

Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 1977
The maximal bite force and the strength of the finger-thumb grip of 125 Skolt Lapps, aged 15 to 65, was measured with a specially devised apparatus. The bite force was measured with the biting fork placed between the first molars and between the incisors, respectively.

Bite force in children with bruxism

Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 1973
The bite force of 51 twelve-year-old bruxists was compared with that of a control group of the same age, in order to establish whether bruxism affects bite force and whether there is any connection between the degree of tooth abrasion and bite force.

Estimating human incisal bite forces from the electromyogram/bite-force function

Archives of Oral Biology, 1994
This study used the electromyogram (EMG)/force-function curve as a means of estimating functional bite forces. Surface EMG recordings were made for the masseter and anterior temporalis muscles bilaterally in ten adults while incisal bite forces were measured using a force transducer embedded in custom-made hydroplastic bite blocks.

Measurement of the Maximum Occlusal Bite Force and its Relation to the Caries Spectrum of First Permanent Molars in Early Permanent Dentition.

Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, 2020
OBJECTIVE To determine the maximum occlusal bite force (MOBF) of the complete spectrum of dental caries in first permanent molars (FPMs) in children aged 7-9 years. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study was conducted on 123 children.

Bite force measurements with hard and soft bite surfaces

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2013
SummaryBite force has been measured by different methods and over a wide variety of designs. In several instruments, the fact that bite surface has been manufactured with stiff materials might interfere in obtaining reliable data, by a more prompt activation of inhibitory reflex mechanisms. The purpose of this study was to compare the maximum voluntary
