Mass spectrometric determination of the dissociation energies of the molecules BiO, BiS, BiSe and BiTe

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1969
The dissociation energies of BiO, BiS, BiSe and BiTe were determined from equilibrium studies based on the exchange reactions Pb(g)+ BiX(g)= Bi(g)+ PbX(g), where X = O, S, Se or Te and from the known dissociation energies of PbO, PbS, PbSe and PbTe. The values obtained are D°0(BiO)= 338.9 ± 5.9, D°0(BiS)= 311.8 ± 4.6, D°0(BiSe)= 276.5 ± 5.9 and D°0 ...

Bite force and body mass of the fossil rodentTelicomys giganteus(Caviomorpha, Dinomyidae)

Historical Biology, 2017
AbstractAn exceptionally well-preserved skull of the Pliocene rodent Telicomys giganteus allowed the first estimation of body mass and analysis of the bite mechanics of this species of South American giant rodent. In this study, we reconstructed the main anatomical features of the skull of this Pliocene rodent and related them to the bite force at the ...

Lepromatous leprosy in man; depth of the cellular infiltrate and bacillary mass in relation to the possibility of transmission of leprosy by biting arthropods

Annals of Tropical Medicine & Parasitology, 1983
In order to further define the possible role of arthropods in the transmission of leprosy, the depth of the cellular infiltrate and bacillary mass in the skin of patients with untreated lepromatous leprosy was measured, and this was related to the depth of penetration of the mouthparts of some species of arthropods of medical importance.

[The mass development of biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) on the littoral of the White Sea].

Parazitologiia, 1995
The biting midges larvae fauna of the intertidal and supralittoral zones in Sel'dianaia small bay (Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea) is studied. It is represented by Stilobezzia sp., Dasyhelea sp. and Culicoides manchuriensis immature stages. Their distribution displays the strict vertical zonation. The abundance of larvae collected differs strongly at

Maintenance of daily intake through bite mass diversity adjustment in sheep grazing on heterogeneous and variable vegetation

Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 2005
Concerns about biodiversity preservation through grazing have revived interest in feeding choices made by herbivores. In this article, we study the dynamics of behavioural intake response in heterogeneous vegetation, where the size and quality of edible plants is highly diverse and varies from day to day as a result of grazing.

Evaluation of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry for characterization of Culicoides nubeculosus biting midges

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 2010
Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) has shown promise in species identification of insect species. We evaluated its potential to consistently characterize laboratory‐reared biting midges of the species Culicoides nubeculosus (Meigen ...

Maximal Bite Force and Its Association with Signs and Symptoms of TMD, Occlusion, and Body Mass Index in a Cohort of Young Adults

CRANIO®, 2003
The purpose of this population-based cohort was to measure maximal bite force (MBF) in the molar and incisal regions and to examine whether MBF was associated with TMD, gender, occlusion (in terms of overjet, overbite, and total number of occluding contacts), and body mass index (BMI).

How Do You Eat an Elephant? Reducing Mass Incarceration in California One Small Bite at a Time

The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, 2016
While most states are considering reducing the impact of mass incarceration in their prison systems, few states have faced a larger challenge than California, and few states have reduced their convict and parole population as much as California. Federal court intervention and a series of legislative and voter-initiated reforms in California have ...
