“Bite-Wing” X Rays—A Scheme for Mass Dental Radiography

open access: closedThe British Journal of Radiology, 1946
A scheme has been devised whereby accurate X rays for interstitial caries can be taken quickly by dental assistants. It is hoped that this scheme may be used in the R.A.F. to lower the incidence of dental pain while flying, but a much wider field can be envisaged for its application.

[Cases of mass karakurt bites in Uzbekistan].

open access: closedMeditsinskaia parazitologiia i parazitarnye bolezni, 1989
In 1981-1984 in Uzbekistan (the Navoi and Khorezm Provinces, the Karakalpak ASSR) 463 cases of bites by Latrodectus tredecimguttatus have been registered (372 cases, in 1983). The highest number of bites was observed at the end of May and the first half of July. Mild and subacute intoxications prevailed. No fatal outcomes were registered.

How Do You Eat an Elephant? Reducing Mass Incarceration in California One Small Bite at a Time

The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, 2016
While most states are considering reducing the impact of mass incarceration in their prison systems, few states have faced a larger challenge than California, and few states have reduced their convict and parole population as much as California. Federal court intervention and a series of legislative and voter-initiated reforms in California have ...

Relationship between bite force and body mass index in the institutionalized elderly

open access: closedGeriatrics & Gerontology International, 2005
Background:  The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible relationship between nutritional status and chewing ability in the institutionalized elderly. Methods:  We examined the oral condition and bite force in relation to the age, sex and body mass index (BMI) in 559 institutionalized elderly (155 men and 404 women).

Reliability, reference values and factors related to maximum bite force measured by the Innobyte system in healthy adults with natural dentitions

Clinical Oral Investigations
We aimed to determine the predictors of maximum bite force (MBF), as measured with the Innobyte system, and to assess the reliability and reference values for MBF in young adults with natural dentitions.

Evaluation of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry for characterization of Culicoides nubeculosus biting midges

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 2010
Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) has shown promise in species identification of insect species. We evaluated its potential to consistently characterize laboratory‐reared biting midges of the species Culicoides nubeculosus (Meigen ...

Another one bites the dust: Does incisor-arcade size affect mass gain and survival in grazing ungulates?

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2003
Incisor-arcade size affects foraging efficiency in grazing ungulates and should be under strong selective pressure. We investigated individual variation in incisor-arcade size and its relationship with body mass and survival in bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) at Ram Mountain, Alberta, Canada, over 9 years.

[The mass development of biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) on the littoral of the White Sea].

Parazitologiia, 1995
The biting midges larvae fauna of the intertidal and supralittoral zones in Sel'dianaia small bay (Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea) is studied. It is represented by Stilobezzia sp., Dasyhelea sp. and Culicoides manchuriensis immature stages. Their distribution displays the strict vertical zonation. The abundance of larvae collected differs strongly at
