The biting rate of Triatoma infestans in Argentina
Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 1991Abstract. The daily proportion of fed individuals in a population of the reduviid bug Triatoma infestans (Klug), maintained under natural climatic conditions in experimental chicken ...

Error rates in bite mark analysis in an in vivo animal model
Forensic Science International, 2010Recent judicial decisions have specified that one foundation of reliability of comparative forensic disciplines is description of both scientific approach used and calculation of error rates in determining the reliability of an expert opinion. Thirty volunteers were recruited for the analysis of dermal bite marks made using a previously established in ...

Increased Biting Rate and Reduced Fertility in Sporozoite-Infected Mosquitoes
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1986Because salivary function and blood location are impaired in sporozoite-infected mosquitoes, we determined whether such pathology also could lead to an increased biting rate. For 5 days, we compared relative daily biting rates of Plasmodium gallinaceum sporozoite-infected mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) and noninfected mosquitoes with an olfactometer ...

Rate-Compatible Tail-Biting Convolutional Codes for M2M Communications
IEEE Communications Letters, 2018We propose an algorithm to construct a group of rate-compatible tail-biting convolutional codes (RC-TBCCs) with consistently good frame error rate performance for both short and long information lengths. The algorithm considers the free distance property and the minimum distance profile of a TBCC jointly.

Sixteen-month-old heifers from herds having known genetic growth patterns were compared for differences in grazing behavior in a 3-yr study. Treatments were heifers from four size-maturity groups defined by the mature size and maturing rate of cow herds in which they originated.

Estimation of the Survival and Biting Rates of Culex Quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1981The average survival and biting rates of many hematophagous insects may be estimated in the field under conditions of variable recruitment rate from relatively short runs of nulliparous and parous data. The formula suggested is a simple modification of the parous rate formula and is derived from the underlying population dynamics.

Fed's 2022 rate rises to bite fully this year
Emerald Expert Briefings, 2023Significance The major central banks use one key tool to implement policy and influence the economy as directly as possible -- an overnight interest rate on banks’ reserves at the central bank. This one-day rate influences the interest available from long-maturity investments, which shapes spending in major parts of the ...

Appetite, 1984
College students ate two high preference or two low preference doughnuts under high or low hunger conditions. Subjects were led to believe that we were interested in preference ratings made after eating the doughnuts. The number of bites and the total snack time were covertly recorded.

Rate of intake, bites, and chews—the interpretation of lean–obese differences
Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 2000The microstructure of eating behavior reflects physical properties of food. Responses of lean and obese subjects to these physical properties are similar. For example, eating smaller bite-sized food units reduces initial ingestion rate and mean and local ingestion rate for the entire meal, but does not affect total intake in either lean or obese women.
