Not Necessarily Farm‐Wives: The Working Women of Rural Aotearoa/New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 3, December 2026.
ABSTRACT There's a perception farm‐resident women are farmers or farmwives (e.g., cooks, record‐keepers, errand‐runners). Yet most farm‐resident women record a non‐farm occupation in their census returns. This article investigates this anomaly. It looks at the changing status of farm and other rural women, the diversity of non‐farming careers they ...

Machine Learning Approaches for Predicting Total Organic Carbon From Petrophysical Well Logs in the Wufeng–Longmaxi Shale, Southeast Sichuan Basin, China

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 13, Issue 4, October 2026.
This study demonstrates the application of machine learning models—Random Forest, XGBoost, and Multiple Linear Regression—to predict Total Organic Carbon (TOC) from well logs, significantly improving TOC prediction accuracy and reliability across diverse geological settings compared to traditional log‐based methods.

Seismic Versus Sub‐Seismic Experimental Mirror‐Like Fault Surfaces in Bituminous Dolostones

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Mirror‐like Surfaces (MSs) are ultra‐polished surfaces frequently found in exhumed seismogenic fault zones in carbonates. They form over a wide range of pressure‐temperature conditions and slip rates, from seismic (≈1 m/s) to sub‐seismic (≈0.1–100 μm/s), reflecting distinct phases of the seismic cycle.

The Unexpected Discovery of Paleocene? Coals in Outcrops Thought to Be Cambrian, Al Huqf, Oman

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, Volume 49, Issue 4, Page 1179-1194, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Two brown organic deposits were encountered whilst investigating kaolinitic claystones thought to occur at the base of a Cambrian formation at outcrop. The age of these organic deposits is probably Paleocene from palynology. Organic petrography shows that they are subbituminous coals with some oil source potential.
