Effective Removal of Fe and Ca From Coal Fly Ash for High‐Purity and High‐Surface‐Area Zeolite X Synthesis: A Comparative Study of Acid Refluxing and Acid Roasting Methods

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
Coal fly ash (CFA) is an abundant industrial waste rich in silica and alumina and represents a viable feedstock for zeolite synthesis; however, high levels of calcium and iron limit zeolite purity and crystallisation. This study evaluates acid refluxing and acid roasting as pre‐treatment strategies for the simultaneous removal of Ca and Fe from high ...

Evaluation of rheological and microstructural behavior of modified asphalt binder with chitosan derived from shrimp shell powder

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Chitosan derived from shrimp shells (SSPCH) was used for the first time as a biological biopolymer to modify the properties of bitumen across high, medium, and low-temperature ranges. Therefore, physical tests (penetration, softening point, and ductility)

Outline of a Washing Treatment to Improve Electric Arc Furnace Slag Environmental Behavior

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 5, Page 2541-2558, May 2026.
This study evaluates a water‐washing treatment for electric arc furnace slag to reduce the leaching of hazardous elements (Cr, Ba, Mo, and V), enabling its reuse. The process effectively decreases leachate concentrations. Using the treated slag as a substitute aggregate in concrete reduces greenhouse gases emissions by 42.5% compared to landfilling ...

Putative Analogs of Pyrite Suns Forming in Proglacial Alaska Mudflats

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Disc‐shaped pyrite suns of the Pennsylvanian age Anna Shale are thought to have formed where pressure restricted pyrite crystal growth to a flattened disc shape during diagenesis at the Anna Shale and the underlying Herrin coal boundary.

Cooee bitumen: Dynamics and structure of bitumen- water mixtures

open access: yes, 2016
Systems of Cooee bitumen and water up to 4 mass % are studied by molecular dynamics simula- tions. The cohesive energy density of the system is shown to decrease with an increasing water content. This decrease is due mainly to an increase in potential energy which is not high enough to counterbalance the increase in volume due to the addition of water.
