Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Can Shading Drive the Transition from Black Band Disease to a Cyanobacterial Patch-like Stage in Montipora Corals?

open access: yesDiversity
Black band disease (BBD), which overgrows and kills scleractinian coral, is known to have various phases. The initial phase is the cyanobacterial patches (CPs) phase, followed by the intermediate phase (IP), and finally the mature BBD phase.

Integrated approach to understanding the onset and pathogenesis of black band disease in corals [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, 2016
Summary Emerging infectious diseases are contributing to global declines in coral reef ecosystems, highlighting a growing need for aetiological knowledge to develop effective management strategies. In this review, we focus on black band disease ( BBD ), one of the most ...

Day/night variations of myeloid and lymphoid cell subsets in the murine inguinal lymph node

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The circadian system is involved in the temporal regulation of the immune system. Our study reveals that two innate immune populations, NKT cells and neutrophils, predominate at the beginning of the day in healthy mice, highlighting how the time of day influences immune responses.

Application of YOLOv8 Algorithm for Coral Reef Disease Detection as an Effort to Prevent Marine Habitat Damage in Batam

open access: yesJurnal RESTI (Rekayasa Sistem dan Teknologi Informasi)
Research in 2019 in Batam City showed that out of 19 coral reef fisheries support facilities, 16 were declared not good. Coral reef damage increased from 36.28% to 39.44%.

Prevalence, host range, and spatial distribution of black band disease in the Maldivian Archipelago [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2013
Little research has been conducted on diseases affecting reef-building corals in the central Indian Ocean. During 2010 and 2011, we performed a quantitative assessment of black band disease (BBD) in the central Republic of Maldives. Distribution, host range, and prevalence of BBD were investigated at 6 coral islands (Magoodhoo, Adanga, Ihuru ...

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Naked cuticle is essential for Drosophila wing development beyond Wingless signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Naked cuticle (Nkd), a Wnt signaling inhibitor, assumes extensive roles in Drosophila wing development. Overexpressing Nkd causes smaller, crumpled wings, while also perturbing multiple signaling pathways and developmental genes. A specific region (R1S) is critical for Nkd's function as a signaling integrator, offering new insights for studying its ...
