Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Estimating the level of carbamoylated plasma non-high-density lipoproteins using infrared spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: The increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality observed in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients can be partly explained by the presence of carbamoylated lipoproteins. Lipid profiles can be determined with infrared spectroscopy. In this

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Bacterial communities associated with Porites white patch syndrome (PWPS) on three western Indian Ocean (WIO) coral reefs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The scleractinian coral Porites lutea, an important reef-building coral on western Indian Ocean reefs (WIO), is affected by a newly-reported white syndrome (WS) the Porites white patch syndrome (PWPS).

Recurrence Plot Based Measures of Complexity and its Application to Heart Rate Variability Data

open access: yes, 2002
The knowledge of transitions between regular, laminar or chaotic behavior is essential to understand the underlying mechanisms behind complex systems. While several linear approaches are often insufficient to describe such processes, there are several ...

Cyanotoxins from Black Band Disease of Corals and from Other Coral Reef Environments [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Ecology, 2009
Many cyanobacteria produce cyanotoxins, which has been well documented from freshwater environments but not investigated to the same extent in marine environments. Cyanobacteria are an obligate component of the polymicrobial disease of corals known as black band disease (BBD).

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Cyanobacteria Associated with Coral Black Band Disease in Caribbean and Indo-Pacific Reefs [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2003
ABSTRACT For 30 years it has been assumed that a single species of cyanobacteria, Phormidium corallyticum , is the volumetrically dominant component of all cases of black band disease (BBD) in coral.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

First Report of Diseases and Compromised Health Conditions on Hard Corals around Rodrigues Island, Southwest Indian Ocean

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
Coral diseases represent a prominent menace to coral reefs and to the associated ecological services they provide to the surrounding coastal communities.
