The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.

Fires prime terrestrial organic carbon for riverine export to the global oceans

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Black carbon is a recalcitrant and unique form of organic carbon formed from incomplete combustion. Here the authors use global sampling to reduce uncertainty in the flux of terrestrial black carbon to the oceans, predicting that 34% of black carbon ...

Exploring the use of mobile sensors for noise and black carbon measurements in an urban environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Mobile measurements have been collected on a bicycle equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) in a few connecting streets in Gent (Belgium). The 1-s sound pressure levels and 1-s black carbon concentrations were measured. In addition, 5 continuous

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Fine-grained concrete properties in depending on carbon black additive introducing methods

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The object of research is fine-grained concrete with carbon black additive obtained from the recycling of rubber tires. This study aims to determine a method for introducing carbon black into fine-grained concrete that achieves the best strength ...

Vulcanization Kinetics of Natural Rubber Based On Free Sulfur Determination

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry, 2013
The determination of free sulfur in the rubber vulcanizates provided significant representation of vulcanization reaction. In this research, the effects of vulcanization temperature, the mixing method of carbon black into rubber, the ingredients mixing ...

Recommendations for reporting "black carbon" measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
Abstract. Although black carbon (BC) is one of the key atmospheric particulate components driving climate change and air quality, there is no agreement on the terminology that considers all aspects of specific properties, definitions, measurement methods, and related uncertainties.

Separation of Carbon from Deinking Waste by Means of Flotation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1955
The technique of froth flotation, as practiced in the separation of mineral ores, has been applied to the separation of carbon black from the deinking waste of the paper industry. On the theory that carbon black (from ink) has a positive charge in water,

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Premature failure of medium-power two-pole induction motor windings

open access: yesElectrical engineering & Electromechanics, 2013
Causes of premature failure of medium-power two-pole induction motor windings after the windings first repair are revealed. Recommendations for the medium-power two-pole induction motor winding reliability improvement are given.
