Ecocide: from a war crime to an international crime?

open access: yesOpolskie Studia Administracyjno-Prawne
in response to the relevance achieved in the last decade, this article explores the evolution of ecocide as a legal concept, from its origins to its contemporary status as a potential international crime, with the aim of assessing whether current ...

GeV breaks in blazars as a result of gamma-ray absorption within the broad-line region

open access: yes, 2010
Spectra of the brightest blazars detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope Large Area Telescope cannot be described by a simple power law model. A much better description is obtained with a broken power law, with the break energies of a few GeV. We

On the Prospects for African Philosophy in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper grapples with the situation of people of African descent in Australia by working through the constitution of the body of academic philosophy in the country. It contends with the parochialism of the Australian philosophical community and the prospects for the cultivation of greater pluralism. Taking African philosophy as one possible

The Constantinian «Dies Solis» Law in its Political and Legislative Context

open access: yesStudia Historica: Historia Antigua, 2011
The so-called «Dies Solis» Law, enacted by Constantine in 321, established the Day of the Sun as a public feast (dies festus) in the Roman official calendar. This law can be studied in the political and legislative context between the first (314-315) and

Navigating Whiteness in Australia's Anti‐Racism Movement: A Duoethnographic Inquiry by Women of Colour Scholars

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper applies Critical Race Theory (CRT) to explore how whiteness operates within Australia's anti‐racism movement as a structuring force that shapes discourse, practice and policy. Despite the anti‐racism movement offering crucial spaces for resistance and reform, it remains entangled in Australia's settler‐colonial present and systemic ...

Towards sustainable governance of freshwater sand – A resource regime approach

open access: yesEarth System Governance
The UN (2022) recently highlighted the global crisis posed by governance failures in sand mining. Yet despite this acknowledgement of its importance in unlocking this emerging crisis, research on sand governance has barely begun (Cao and Masanet, 2022 ...

The New Dynamics Of Self-Determination [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The term self-determination still teeters on the borders of evolving legal precept, expression of political will, and universal human aspiration. The concept never quite settles down into a black letter law pronouncement or a clearly understood political

Why is IGR J17091-3624 so faint? Constraints on distance, mass, and spin from `phase-resolved' spectroscopy of the `heartbeat' oscillations

open access: yes, 2012
IGR J17091--3624 is a transient X-ray source and is believed to be a Galactic black hole candidate. Recently, it has received a considerable attention due to the detection of peculiar variability patterns known as `heartbeats', which are quasi-periodic ...

Universal Entanglement and an Information‐Complete Quantum Theory

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective summarize an informationcomplete quantum theory which describes a fully quantum world without any classical systems and concepts. Here spacetime/gravity, having to be a physical quantum system, universally entangles matter (matter fermions and their gauge fields) as an indivisible trinity, and encodes information‐complete physical ...

Efficient Dynamics: Reduced‐Order Modeling of the Time‐Dependent Schrödinger Equation

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Reduced‐order modeling (ROM) approaches for the time‐dependent Schrödinger equation are investigated, highlighting their ability to simulate quantum dynamics efficiently. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition, Dynamic Mode Decomposition, and Reduced Basis Methods are compared across canonical systems and extended to higher dimensions.
