Nutritional value of black and white oat cultivars ensiled in two phenological stages Valor nutricional de cultivares de aveia preta e branca ensiladas em dois estádios fenológicos

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2010
It was evaluated in this work, crop yield, fermentative quality and nutritional value of the silage of cultivars of white (Avena Sativa L.) and black (Avena Strigosa Schreb) oats cut at two development stages. It was used an experimental randomized block

Viability of black oat seeds in the soil as a function of burial time

open access: yesRevista de Ciências Agroveterinárias
This work aimed to verify if there is a temporal effect on the viability of black oat seeds under natural conditions after harvesting, under burial. The treatments were arranged in a bifactorial scheme, with five black oat genotypes and eight exhumation periods (90; 180; 270; 360; 450; 540; 630 and 720 days after burial), distributed in four ...

Lightning electromagnetic emission location using arrival time differencing (LEELA): An introduction to the Met Office's next generation Very Low Frequency lightning location system

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This paper describes the Met Office's new lightning location system LEELA. A brief overview of the upgraded hardware and geolocation algorithms is given. LEELA has improved lightning detection capabilities, especially at night. When comparing LEELA to the previous ATDnet system against ground truths LEELA has 100% storm detection efficiency within 5 km

Composição botânica e estrutural e valor nutricional de pastagens de azevém consorciadas Botanic and structural composition and nutritional value on intercropped ryegrass pastures

Local Ecological Knowledge Reveals the Distribution of Cryptic Nocturnal Wildlife 局域生态知识揭示隐秘夜行野生动物的分布

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Many nocturnal animals are difficult to study because they are rarely seen, including nocturnal primates, galagos and pottos, in West Africa. Working with over 600 people in 52 villages in southern Guinea‐Bissau, we found that communities frequently recognized galagos by their red eyeshine and distinctive calls, while pottos were not known.

Boldness and niche width structure spatial interactions in a natural rodent community

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We show that individual behavioural differences (boldness) structure spatial encounter patterns within a natural multi‐species community. By linking personality to space use and interaction structure, our study demonstrates how intraspecific variation can scale up to shape community‐level processes.

Occurrence and Structure of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Communities in Cassava after Cultivation of Cover Crops as Observed by the “PCR-DGGE” Technique

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2015
Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a highly mycotrophic crop, and prior soil cover may affect the density of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMFs), as well as the composition of the AMFs community in the soil.

‘More Beastliness Than Beauty’: Gendering Pica in Seventeenth‐Century English Medicine and Culture

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Today, defined as the ‘persistent eating of non‐nutritive substances’, pica is a lesser‐known eating disorder with a long history. Defined in early modern England as the ‘desire to eat absurd things’, pica was explicitly gendered, associated with pregnant women and pubescent girls.

Production and bromatological quality of cool-season intercropped forage

open access: yesCiência Rural
: The present study assessed dry biomass production, morphological composition, nutritional value, and rumen degradation of different intercropped cool-season forage species and cultivars harvested in the pre-flowering and mealy grain stages.

Efficiency, Shadow Pricing and Regime Switching in Multi‐Ware Technologies: Evidence From Regulated Livestock Farms

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We develop a framework for regulated production systems where output generation and pollution abatement impose competing technological demands. Using a multi‐ware technology, we model the production set as the intersection of two input requirement frontiers, one for production and one for abatement, each reflecting distinct trade‐offs.
